Most of the birds aren't dying because of windmills. Some yes, most no. It is nice to see you care about something environmentally besides the crabgrass in your front lawn.
So right there Sly, nowhere near getting them all yet. Nowhere near, replacing fossil fuel with windturbines either. Are we up to 1% yet? There is one windmill on the hills above the Straight of Martinez, a lot of turbines there but one seems to be in the right spot or something. It is right in the flyway for the coastal migratory birds going in and out of the Sacramento Delta. Sometimes it is amazing the number of bird it can swat down. Wonder what we can do when get a 100 times the number of these replacing the coal? Ha! About four years ago, I was up in the San Juan's, on a friends boat with a wind-generator on stern. We were reaching across the Boundary Pass, going to the Canadian Islands. I think it was a gull that got into the blades on that generator in probably 20 knots wind. Shit, what a mess! All over the aft deck. Sometimes gulls will try and hitch a ride. I don't have one of those on my boat.
No, actually it is natural gas that is killing coal. Cheaper and cleaner burning. That, and automation in the coal industry, mean there are not going to be any more coal jobs anytime soon. barfo
Wrong! Marazul is trying to tell you that the canary in the coal mine has actually been taught to dig coal, only they're being killed by turbines when they fly to work.
Regulation had no effect? http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/dec/19/obama-rushes-out-11th-hour-regulations-targeting-c/ http://dailycaller.com/2016/09/05/o...83000-coal-jobs-lost-and-400-mines-shuttered/ But still, you might be right. But will it continue?
Well, pretty obviously regulations enacted in December 2016 had no effect. Coal jobs have been declining much longer than Obama was president. Recent declines are actually pretty modest compared to the 1920s and 1950s. Long term trend is pretty clear, though. I guess if Trump outlaws fracking, then the natural gas boom might not continue. What are the chances of that? Zero? barfo
