As an offseason target for the wing I'd like Lee. His contract is not ideal, but is ok and he ll bring some consistency. He is a good shooter and defender and maybe they would be interested in Crabbe and we take back Lee and O'Quinn (so his forum fans are happy ).
Don't care about people laughing....but don't pay that much for Chandler who used to be talented but now is just old and broken down and makes Meyers look productive.
The off-season...is coming soon. Given our total lack of healthy big men and the monster front lines the Blazers will face the rest of this dwindling season, I doubt they win another game.
Supposedly Harkless and Aminu were on a list in the back of a picture of a tweet by the Orlando Magic as possible trade targets. I'm sure it doesn't mean much, but it's out there.
I like summer planning......so I'll chime in..... Lillard, McCollum, Nurkic are all really solid at their positions. I would give up CJ if we could get either PGeorge or Butler. I like Harkless and Vonleh as our forwards into next year. Upgrades are always welcome though. But I like that starting unit. I see redundancy in having both Crabbe and Turner, especially with their large contracts. Want to see one moved. I really like the progression I'm seeing in Aminu and would like to keep him - solid for our bench. Every other player on the roster (Leonard, Napier, Layman, Davis, Connaughton, Quartermann and Ezeli), and our picks (Blazers own 1st, Mem 1st, Cle 1st) are all trade chips to me. What can we get for them? It would be nice to find a hidden gem (Matthews-type) hiding on another team, but I'd also be OK with letting Ezeli and Pat go and just add players like Jackson (UNC) and Bell (UO). PS - I don't think we can maintain having both Crabbe and Turner contracts on our bench. Just too much allocated to two positions, when re-signings are looming. So.....who would you keep? I know what I see....Crabbe is the better shooter. Turner the better ball handler. I don't know how to rate their defense. I'm torn on who to keep.
No way; Chandler is still good, had a 16 PER this season. He's old but at 14-16 minutes a night our center production would be the highest it's been for 48 minutes in decades.
I'd consider starting Turner at SF and moving Harkless and Aminu, though Aminu still has a lot of value to the team. I'd also consider dealing Ed Davis, a guy I really like. Between the 3, we have about $25M in CBA ballast, and if we include Leonard in the offseason deals, it's closer to $35M. I think we can get a lot for that $35M, and end up cutting enough salary to cover the contracts of the three 1st round picks. And yes, I think there's a market for those four. I expect Vonleh to step up next season and again the season after. I'm fine with starting him and giving him more minutes next season. It would be most excellent if one more more of the draft picks is NBA ready and contributes as a rotation player. We need, under my scenario, a backup SF, PF and C, and depth at G.
So one issue that I have seen this season is the fact that we were counting on Turner to essentially fill the role of a backup point guard, but that hasn't worked out well. I think he's fine as a part time ball handler, but I'm not sure if he can handle the primary ball handler duties when Dame is off the court. I wish that Nurk hadn't gone down because I wanted to see if our improved defense is real and sustainable, or if it's just an anomaly. I still think I would look to move CJ for either Butler or PG. Start Crabbe and then look to add a backup point guard. Funny enough, Patty Mills is a free agent this summer. Dame/Patty Crabbe/ Turner Butler/Harkless Vonleh/Aminu Nurkic/Davis That would be a REALLY solid 10 man rotation.

The team salary on the last day of the team's regular season is used for determining the amount, if any luxury tax owed. For practical purposes, with the trade deadline passed and all player's having guaranteed contracts through the end of the regular season, our final team salary for the 2016-17 season will be the same as it is today - $112,416,240. The luxury tax threshold was announced back on July 2, 2016 at $113,287,000. So no luxury tax this year for the Blazers. There are only two teams over the threshold. CLE at $127,594,948 is $14,307,948 over and LAC at $114,740,032 is $1,453,032. The latter illustrates what an incompetent GM Doc Rivers is. He should have been able to make a minor roster move prior to the trade deadline to get under the tax threshold, which has been known since last July. Not a big deal this year, but with J.J. Reddick becoming a free agent and Blake Griffin and Chris Paul both potentially opting out of their contracts this summer, Rivers will be faced with either blowing the team up or becoming a repeat offender for years to come. I have a friend who is a huge Clipper fan. He thinks Doc will be gone. I was surprised he said that but what you pointed out almost sounds like he wants to get fired. He has two more years after this. He makes at least 10 million a year. Maybe he wants to get paid to leave.
He has made so many questionable moves as a GM he really should be relieved of that responsibility. He should have let Paul Pierce retire after last season. It sounded like Pierce was leaning toward retirement and Doc talked him out of it. If Pierce had retired, they would be under the tax threshold. He also could have paid his kid a little less. At about $12 million a year for a PER = 10 player, he's not Allen Crabbe overpaid, but no one else made him an offer. So, Doc basically got to decide how much to pay his kid. If he would have paid him $1.4 million less, they would be under the tax threshold. He has also used the stretch provision to buy out 3 players he offered guaranteed contracts and then cut. That's another ~$1.2 million a year, spread out over five years, that again contributes to their luxury tax problem. I know Steve Ballmer is a rich fuck who completely overpaid for that team, but just basic cap management 101 could have saved them from paying the tax this year and delayed their impending repeater status by a full year.
