Why haven't we been granted an injury exception?

Has the team simply not asked for one?

With Ezeli out, Davis out, Nurk out, and Meyers playing with injuries that really SHOULD have him sidelined.... why haven't we sought or been granted an injury exception?

We have no big men. We need to bring someone in. I'm a little surprised that there hasn't been any movement from the team.

Because using one would put us over the LT.

Need to have 4 guys injured and missing at least 3 games before a roster spot exception is granted. Nurk has only missed two, so even if Meyers hadn't been playing, we wouldn't even qualify for one until after tonight.

And Denny's right about the LT issue, which I'm sure Olshey wants to avoid.

And risk the repeater tax in the future. I'm thinking it's more about having the ability to go over if we need to when we're ready to compete?

Put MyLe on the injured list and bring in a one-armed Steven "Beardman" Hill.

    It's a clear upgrade.

Not necessarily. We are $870,600 under the tax threshold. We could sign a player with no prior NBA experience to a minimum contract of $543,471. Unfortunately, we are $4036 shy of being able to sign a player with 1-year of NBA experience (such as Cliff Alexander).

Even more unfortunate with less than 10-days left in our season, we can't sign anyone to a 10-day contract:

    .

Which is a huge bummer as those contracts are prorated. So, we could have basically signed anyone available to a 10-day contract if we would gave been eligible for, and received, an injury exception two days ago.

Read something the other day about Harkless getting a bonus for his 3 pt percentage, that if paid would eat up about $500k of that and take us closer to the limit? Anybody have anything on that?

We need to bring some minimum salary big, find a diamond in the rough. Scout the NBDL a bit. If we find a gem and still make the playoffs with Nurk's injury, he could be Nurk's backup and move Meyers to Power Forward

Yes, we'd be just as well off signing a guy to vet minimum. Pro rated, and signed after mid-season, the full year's amount isn't applied to salary cap calculations. The pro-rated amount is.

    29. When a player signs mid-year for the rest of the season, is his salary pro-rated? What is a "Rest-of-Season" contract?

A "Rest-of-Season" contract is exactly what its name implies -- it is a contract signed after the start of a season, which is in effect for the remainder of that season.

With the exception of minimum-salary contracts, salaries do not pro-rate during the season. However, the exceptions that enable players to be signed are subject to pro-ration (see question number 26). For example, a team that has not used its Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level exception could use its full amount to sign a player on the last day of the regular season. By that day this exception will have pro-rated down to less than half its original value. However a player could sign a rest-of-season contract on that day for the entire pro-rated amount, earning it all for just one game.

The minimum salary begins to pro-rate on the first day of the regular season. The minimum salary on a Rest-of-Season contract is based on the fraction of the season remaining when the contract is signed. For example, if there are 170 days in the season, then a minimum salary contract signed on the 60th day of the season is worth 110/170 of the full minimum salary amount.1 If a player signs a multi-year minimum salary contract partway through the first season, then the first season is pro-rated and the salary in subsequent seasons is the full minimum salary.

Raises are based on the actual salary in the first season of the contract. For example, if a free agent signs a two-year contract on the last day of the regular season and the salary for the first season is $1 million, then the second season salary may range from $955,000 to $1.045 million.

10-day contracts (see question number 80) are also pro-rated. The salary on a 10-day contract is based on the number of days actually covered by the contract (a 10-day contract lasts 10 days or three games, whichever is longer).

1 It is not considered a minimum-salary contract if a player signs for more than the pro-rated minimum -- i.e., it cannot be signed using the Minimum Player Salary exception (see question number 25), the player cannot be traded as a minimum-salary player (see question number 86), and the team cannot receive reimbursement for a portion of the salary (see question number 16).

The issue in signing someone to a prorated vet minimum deal is that we'd have to cut someone (who's likely better) to open a roster spot.

Really? How good have Connaughton and Quarterman shown themselves to be?

Honestly, I seriously doubt that either one could help the team more than (for example) Cliff Alexander could.
