I just want to hear some opinions on Perk, honestly, I haven't been watching the Celts as intensely as I have in past years because of work at college. But currently, this guy is signed to what I think is a somewhat unwarranted deal until 2011. 4 points 4 boards, 1.4 blocks so far this season, I haven't seen a lot games like I said before but I really don't think Perk is worth it from the games I've seen and his overall production. Is Perk trade bait? or is Perk going to flourish? Let me hear some opinions
Perk isn't going to be a good player in this league. We need to face those facts now. I realized this a while ago. The kid is best suited as a role playing rebounder/shot blocker off the bench, a role I can see him filling extremely well 20 mpg off the bench for us.
He's always getting injurred and sick, and has a very strange way that sometimes he can play magnificent for a few games then drop back to his regular self for a long time. He won't flourish, he still has a bit of potential to improve a bit, but he will never be a big name. He is likely to be a bench player for a very long time in his career, if not all of it. I really think he would have benefited from playing college, but what's done is done and we have to accept that he will hopefully devekop into an off bench roleplayer.
So we are giving up on a 22 year old player who gets inconsistent minutes? He is a hard worker. He is improving on the offensive side of the floor. His minutes are very inconsistent, so it seems hard for him to hit a stride. A lot of this can be attributed to his foul trouble. If he can work on staying out of foul trouble then I think he can be a decent player and possibly a starter. It's only his third year out of high school, he was and is a project, we all knew that, don't give up.
I still like Perk. He's an extremely hard worker, he's tough as nails, he has that badass swagger we need down low, he can rebound, and he can block shots. There are two major reasons Perk isn't having as good a season as we would have liked this year: 1. He isn't healthy. He's playing through plantar fasciitis, and that definitely takes a toll when that foot is underneath a 270 lbs. man who bangs with guys the same size as him night in and night out. 2. He's not getting consistent minutes. He's not getting those minutes because for one he's not healthy, Scal is playing pretty well, and he's not able to give us what we want for 20-25 mpg right now due to that injury. I think Perk is going to be a very good role player for us off the bench, but I do think that he needs to come off the bench. I don't know if I see him becoming a steady starter in this league. But as a role player off the bench, playing 18-20 minutes a night, like yankshater said, he will be fine. I'm not worried. EDIT: Nice to see you stop by, WTJ. What's going on, bro?
I am really not that high on Perk. He has a very VERY basic offensive skillset. He only has one move and im pretty sure we all know what that is. He is at best an average rebounder for his size, and his only decent attribute IMO is his shot blocking ability. He isnt a good defender IMO, but he is a pretty good shot blocker. I really think it is time to bring another center in to town. He cant stay healthy, and even when he is healthy, he doesn't do that great. I think the C's are better off finding another center, or starting Big Al at the center spot, and Ryan at the PF position.

Every time he catches the ball, he stops. He just stops, turns his back to the basket, holds it for a full 2 seconds, waits for the defender to get on him, then he backs down and throws up that lazer hook shot. It's pathetic. Why we give Perk even one iso a game is beyond me. But about what else you said: shot blocking isn't his only good quality. He is also a very good passer for a center. His outlet passing is great. People don't realize it, and people think that outlet passing is a bullsh** excuse for a good quality, but it's really not. We are trying to develop into a running team, we need those passes. Perk is easily the best outlet passer on the team. Also, even Perk's passing in a half-court set is nice. Notice how we don't have Rajon or Bassy make those lob passes into Pierce on that play? We have Perk do it. Perk is a good passer, he is a pretty good shot blocker, and that badass swagger/toughness is very much needed on this team (simply because he's the only one who has it).
When you have to find good things about a player like outlet passing, that isnt a good sign. I have seen a few good passes from him in the halfcourt set this year, but it is nothing to harp on. And he is the better passer because he does more of it. And that is because he cant score around the basket like other guys on the team like Big Al. His defense isnt that good IMO. I dont know what it is, but he never seems to stop or even limit that many big man on other teams. He is a decent shot blocker, but just an average defender IMO.And for the record, I have seen a couple games this year where his right handed hook shot over the middle has gone in a few times....haha

Also, the defense is there, but it's the mental mistakes that he needs to get a hold of, such as unnecessary fouling and going for upfakes on bigger players. Other than a couple minor tweaks, I think Perk's defense is there. It's not dominant, of course, but it's above average. Then again, those little errors are expected. He's 22. Yeah the Lazer Hook drops every now and then, but it's still ugly.
