Is it bad that after watching it I don't feel all tingly like I did after the Force Awakens trailer?

It's kind of a let down, imho.

Eh, the first one had so much nostalgia involved. The Millennium Falcon, Han and Chewy, Storm Troopers.... the whole thing.

Rogue one had Vader... the Death Star.... so really this is the first movie that Disney has made that is out there on its own. Has to stand on its own two feet, in a way. But I agree, that trailer was pretty boring.

They could've sold a better story. The trailer doesn't make me desperate to watch the movie the day it comes out. Thats the point of a trailer, to tease you into wanting more. This teased me into thinking "oh, they spent a lot of time on the island...is it just going to be dagobah light?"

They gave very little in the teaser trailer for the last one too...... but just seeing the Falcon flying, or Han saying "Chewy.... we're home." was all they needed. What could they do for this movie that would have that same effect?

Rogue One also was criticized for their first trailer, but things got better. I loved that movie.

Probably. Force Awakens felt like they wanted to make such a "Star Wars-y" movie that it was pastiche of the originals. Not an exact copy at all, but trying to hit all the familiar themes. I found it okay but nothing too great.

I did like Rogue One a lot, though.

Rogue One was amazing. I loved it. I actually rarely watch trailers.....they show everything.

I'm kinda surprised to see that you guys loved Rogue One. I saw it for the first time last week and didn't think much of it. Force Awakens wasn't fantastic either but I definitely think it's better than Rogue One.

I grew up at the very end of the original trilogy, so I got to see what Star Wars mania was all about. Rogue One made me feel like a kid again. There were two specific scenes that gave me the tinglies and I really really enjoyed it. Force Awakens was okay.... but it just felt too much like a reboot of the same movie. I think what frustrated me about Force Awakens is that they could have gone sooooo many directions. I watched the Clone Wars series, as well as the Star Wars Rebels series, and I have been exposed to much of the other expanded universe stuff. There is so much they could have done, but they went with what was familiar and it was just a little boring. Another Death Star...... yawn.

I'm sad that they didn't use Timothy Zahn's great series about Thrawn.

On the other hand, at least Disney didn't completely discard Thrawn.

I read those books several years before Disney bought out Lucasfilm, it's a shame they couldn't have made those into movies in the mid to late 90s before the original actors were too old instead of the direction they went with the prequels.

Exact thoughts, maybe think Force Awakens was better than you did. Maybe

    well, poop.

I'd been preparing that this one (middle of a trilogy) was going to be dark, brutal, "evil winning" in an Empire Strikes Back way, but if it's a lot of inner pain, soul-searching stuff I'm unsure how stoked I'll be for it.

I literally just started Rogue One last night with the kids, and we'll finish up tonight.

I have a 7y/o and a 5y/o and an 8-month-pregnant wife who were unprepared to finish it in one sitting. I told them I wouldn't finish it while they were asleep.

I'm excited for the movie and the thought of the Jedi's ending makes me cry, but I agree, that trailer didnt get me more excited like I was hoping it would.

It's not that big of a deal honestly. One of the biggest themes that they have been pushing with Star Wars Rebels is that there isn't a black and a white. A dark and a light. The force isn't that simple. There's a middle. There's a grey area. So it's possible that Luke has come to realize that there shouldn't be a Jedi order because the Jedi were too extreme towards the light, just as the Sith are too extreme to the dark.
