Doesnt the kicker run out in July? or is that just the right of first refusal for a trade? I forget... but AC has a contract that even melo would scoff at as being unfair to the team.

Kicker is for the life of the contract, I believe. He can't be traded without consent for the first year.

He can be traded without his consent if the CBA is satisfied for the proposed trade.

Knight makes more than Meyers and is probably equally bad at basketball. Well, a little better but still crap.

I would do Crabbe for Jackson but they have a much better Crabbe in Caldwell Pope and somebody will give them value for Jackson, he is not that bad.

Meyers Leonard + Cleveland Pick for Kyle O'Quinn :)

(saves us about $6 mil, too)

I think we just have to accept that Meyers will be a Blazer until NO is no longer our GM. He isn't about to trade Meyers and admit that drafting/resigning Meyers was a mistake

Don't be surprised if Neil gets on the phone again with the Detroit Pistons GM regarding Andre Drummond this summer.

That would be very bad for Nurkic and would probably mean that we'd be looking to trade him. He should have good value in the market but honestly, I prefer him to Drummond.

    Yeah, no.

If we leave our team as is, we'll be the 3rd or 4th seed next season. With Nurkic we can beat anybody not named the Warriors. And that's if we don't add anyone else. If we can find another shooter, and a solid backup center, we will contend. With three first rounders to be executed, or used as ammo, I'm confident we will.

I think the starting five is probably fine as-is. We need a bench that won't get beat by a good YMCA Saturday team. Vet backup center who can run Nurk's plays, vet point guard with a shot who can legit back up Dame or CJ. We can use our existing wings to get by if he have to, but we need leadership and size off the bench.

While I don't have specific names, IMO, we need to push guys down and off the roster. Right now we have....

    Dame
    CJ
    Nurk
    Harkless
    Vonleh
    Turner
    Aminu
    Crabbe
    Napier
    Layman
    Leonard
    Davis
    Pat C
    Quarterman
    Ezeli

Ideally, to become a better, more balanced team, we need to push 2 starters down to 6th and 7th guys, and let trickle down. We'll call this the Ronald Reagan plan.

Dame, CJ, Nurk should get us 50-55 ppg, so adding scorers on the front line is less important than adding long wiry guys with good work ethic and are defensive minded with good rebounding instincts. With that, if they are still here, Turner, Vonleh, Aminu and Harkless, to some extent all play averagish to above average defense, so adding a vet 3 point shooter and a slasher to that unit, would give us the change of pace needed for the playoffs. That bench has to have guys that are interchangeable on defense. Have to scramble and break up the offensive rhythm

Absolutely must haves are 1 or 2 players with post moves and a vet pg that can keep us pointing in the right direction.

Then you have to get the team to buy into going through the post on offense.

This is what I believe you have to have to win in the playoffs

I understand the idea, but was pretty sure it's wrong. Now, I'm dead sure it's not right. After Stotts yanked Leonard 30 seconds into a stint for a defensive lapse, I think Stotts was sending a loud and clear message to OLSHEY that he shouldn't be on the roster any more - at any salary.

In that it'll run costs up almost immediately and in 30 years the team will be completely destroyed by the plan? :ghoti:

j/k, it's a good plan in that we do have two starters who would be bench guys on a championship team right now. Of course, it's a helluva lot easier to get vet bench help than it is to get two starters better than the ones we have.

i am pretty sure the trio of dame, cj, and nurk will and should give us 65-70 ppg. but i agree with the rest. i think darren collison would be a good back up to dame. then trading meyers for koufos would give us a needed big man depth. after that we should trade crabbe, and all draft picks to the knicks for their pick then use that pick on tatum or isaac
    dame/collison
    cj/turner/pat
    harkless/tatum or isaac
    vonleh/aminu/ed
    nurkic/koufos/ezeli

I'd say we could roll with 4 of our current starters and push one to the bench. Actually if Dame, CJ and Nurk are our main scorers then Turner is probably my preference at the 3 and Vonleh at the 4. I want to keep Harkless around. Crabbe is my #1 need to part ways with player on this team, I know Meyers is terrible too, but that's one we maybe just take our medicine with and leave him be.

I agree with everything you're saying. Thing is, it's gonna be extremely hard to add the type of players you're talking about. I was wondering if there's a course of action (trade this pick for this player, or shed salary with picks to sign this player, etc.). Reason why is because Olshey will get a ton of hate if he doesn't, which I understand. I bet he wants the type of roster makeup you're talking about, and you guys would probably agree on all of it. Thing is, he might not have any way to get that done. Therefore, if he doesn't, does it make sense to hate on him afterwards? Just saying it's easy to talk about what type of players we need, but it's a lot harder trying to think of which players will fit that bill, which ones are available via trade or free agency, how could we clear money to have a chance at them in free agency, and really overall, how exactly do we get such players?
