    It's part of the required safety gear yes.
    But it's still going to hurt you even if the ball is going 70mph.
    It just won't crush your nuts like it otherwise would.

    Plate guy is 100% Supposed to, yes.


    I've been hit there twice, luckily not on fast pitches. Its more surpising than it hurts.
