yes, people have to understand that political groups are constently evolving, and the democrats and republicans of today are nothing like they were a 100yrs ago. People really shouldnt judge certain events and presidents on the name of the political party, but of the beliefs of that party in the specific time and era.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (The Captain @ Mar 1 2007, 08:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>A lot of people, both Democrat and Republican, agree that Reagan was a good president. Reagan also might not be everyones favorite, but you can't deny he did a lot for the country as well.Just a fun fact, Reagan was originally a Democrat, and greatly supported FDR's leadership and his new deal. He later switched over because he felt the Dems were going in a bad direction and he felt that FDR wouldn't have approved either.</div>I've never met a democrat that liked him, actually. Maybe a moderate, but not a democrat.
No Republican has been a good president? so Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt were bad presidents? You really need to learn your history Mardy, because you say some off the wall stuff. Reagan was not the best president ever, but he did do a lot of good for this country, and for the world. his successors have all been idiots which has lead to Reagan becoming idolized by a lot of people who don't like the direction this country is heading.
Mardy, how old are you? Do you even know what the Democratic Party stands for, and talking to your friends at school isnt a reliable source for politics. Most teens, which im not proud of at all, say whatever the Tv says. It seems you have no real arguements for your statements.

That stuff you said about Reagan was complete and utter bullsh** (IMO) and it was your opinion. What makes a good president is when BOTH sides agree, conservative and liberal IMO. I'm not agreeing with that bullsh** stuff you threw out there about Reagan. Did he make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? LMao.</div>I'm more liberal, but come on. Lincoln was most certainly a TERRIBLE president that did abosolutely nothing for the country! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (austingriz @ Mar 1 2007, 06:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>yes, people have to understand that political groups are constently evolving, and the democrats and republicans of today are nothing like they were a 100yrs ago. The Captain, could you tell me what Reagan did for this country? All you've done is talk about how reagan has done SOOOOOOO much for us, but you haven't named anything.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (redneck @ Mar 1 2007, 03:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>comparing term numbers isn't fair, Reagan wasn't allowed to run for a third term unlike Roosevelt. Reagan did do a lot for this country, he ended the cold war, helped heel the wounds of the 1970s, and gave Americans a good feeling about life and their country. He was probably choosen for this question because in the last 60 years he is without a doubt the best Republican president. Both Bushes sucked, Nixon was a criminal, Ford was a moron, Eisenhower was good but he(and Truman) pretty much kept the status quo. Alot of historians rank Regan and FDR as a top 5 president, the other 3 guys they rank are all from the 19th or 18th century,so thats just why Reagan was picked.</div>there you go
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (austingriz @ Mar 2 2007, 04:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>there you go</div>you tell me the stuff I posted wasn't facts, what you just quoted is complete and utter bullsh** that came out of his ass.And I wasn't even considering Lincoln a "republican"..I mean within the past 50-75 years.
Well, I'd be saying the same thing Redneck said, but...-"Reaganomics"-Cut income taxes-Economy was booming-Installed optimism and pride in America which was really needed at the time.- Brought a peaceful end to the cold war.-Many other things which I can't remember. And like I said, you are acting like Reagan was the worst president ever. Apparently, not many agree with you.In a CSPAN poll, he came in 6th.ABC- 5thQuinnipiac University of last 61 years- 1stWashington College- 2ndGallup- 2ndLet me say that I agree that FDR is one of the greatest presidents. I also think Reagan is too. I don't understand what is so hard to understand about that.
Reagan really helped end the cold war, at the time and the 40 years preceeding, the cold war was the number one issue of debate and concern for Americans. Reagan ended the war without firing a shot, which was something previously thought impossible. many military strategens(sp?) concidered the end to the cold war would be a full blown world war. Regan also modernized the US military. the neat sh*t you see today all started in the reagan years. The Reagan administration also helped incourage the growth of new industries, such as the technologies which would eventually lead to the tech boom of the 1990s. On the home front Reagans polocies helped pull this country out of a recession, gas prices fell, I believe inflation actually dropped for a while as well. His foriegn polocies; he negotialted the SALT treaties with the Soviets which cut the Nuclear, Chemicle, and Biological weapons of both superpowers by nearly half. he helped open better relations with France which had been hurt since the Suez incident.Dwight Eisenhower was another good president, and I was looking at some historical rankings of presidents and he actually has a higher ranking than any president since FDR. These rankings were done by presidential historians, so they're not just BS off the street. thats one reason I hate polls taken by the media. the average american has their head so far up their ass its rediculas, I think Jay Leno has proved time and again with his Jaywalking segments that a good majority of Americans are retarded.

So now your even.
for once Mardy you're dead one. John Kerry doesn't respect the common man, or atleast thats the way he comes off. Kerry comes off as some rich bi*ch who thinks he's holier than tho, one thing which has helped Bush is that he comes off as just a common guy; which might be because he comes off as a complete jackass, something most americans can relate too. Bill Clinton also came off a lot like that, which is one reason he became so popular.
