That gif agrees with you. The transition from the box straight to the new logo almost made me gasp haha...
I believe the color changes have more to do with the improvement than the artwork. I like the color changes (which could have been done to the old logo). And opening up the lines on the ball end makes it appear cleaner. However, I would have kept the taper at the beginning of the lines. The tapered lines add an element of movement and energy. The block lines look too bland. I can live with the new version, just not sold that it is the best they could do. I will give them credit for making some improvement. But maybe they went one step too far away from the traditional old version.
It's an improvement over the current pewter tilt and taper that's for sure. It would have been even better if the lines weren't boxed in on both ends.
It reminds me of something... I can't put my finger on it.... It's better than the old one, but I'm not completely sold.
The typeface is following the trend that the Nets started when they moved to Brooklyn. Now it seems half the league is using some sort of generic slab/sans serif typeface. Off the top of my head I can see BKN, LAC, OKC, BOS, MIL, MIN, DET, IND, TOR utilizing this sort of typeface.
It could very well be that the league wants a more uniform logo across the league so when teams update they're probably using the same marketing firm lol Edit: I LOVE the updated logo. Granted anything is better than what we had lol
