I think they'll stick Klein in the minors. Holden had a good season for what they gave up for him but his playoffs was a struggle. I think he'll be around next year though at his salary. Girardi actually was a pleasant surprise while Staal looked like a camel running through Death Valley in August. I would say he should be the one to go. A buyout isn't great but at least it frees up an extra 4-5m now for cap room we need.
Buyouts aren't going to happen with the years these guys have left so people need to get off that train. For guys with three or four years left on their contracts you end up with dead cap space for six to eight years. It's one of those things people like to just toss out there without exactly understanding how they currently work. They're not like the previous compliance buyouts.
LOL...then they are doomed with that defense. At least two of those guys will be gone somehow, I hope.
Hopefully they can do something but I just wish more people read up on how buyouts currently work before going with it being a likely solution. The just buy out Staal is becoming a favorite line. If they bought him out before next season the Rangers would be responsible for 2/3 of his remaining contract spread over the next eight years. That's a 1.75 million cap hit every year over that span.
Klein isn't a big problem with one year as they can even waive him or deal him with a pick or prospect to a bottom feeder. It would be pretty tough to move either Girardi or Staal without giving up a high pick or top prospect so i think they will consider a buyout. Not saying its more than 50/50 but they may be willing to deal with some of the later ramifications to help for the next 2-3.
Zero chance Staal gets bought out. That would be 8 years of money on the cap...8. More of a chance Girardi could be, but even that I think is a longshot. I posted his buyout cap situation last week, and it isn't pretty. 6 years of money on the cap. Not really appealing. I would see if somehow Vegas would take one, with a pick, and we go from there. Remember Vegas needs to reach a salary floor, so they need some bigger money guys. I would absolutely deal a pick with Girardi to get rid of his cap hit. Double so with all the college guys we have signed to make up for a pick, and we do have real good youth upfront.
You have to add Buch as well. Plus a guy like Graves hopefully can make the jump to 3rd pair dman next season. Like you wrote, no one wants to read this right now, but I think we could reopen that window next season with a few good moves. Gorton couldn't do it all in one summer last offseason, but he did some of it. Now this summer he can do more of it I hope. I trust him. Reshape this team a little more, like you started to do last summer.
agree with everything posted in this thread... don't know how you can have any of these guys comeback for another year, coaches too... it was a disgusting effort from top to bottom!
