They didn't have an idea to tax soda and then change it after they thought about poor people and minorities being most affected by it?

All taxes bad, and middle class carries the bulk of the load as usual.

The Bloomberg soda tax comes with a huge "donation" to the lawmaker(s) who vote it in, no matter the state or city. Same with all anti-gun bills. Kate Brown, Ellen Rosenbaum, Ginny Burdick...all sitting pretty on a pile of millions from NY billionaire Michael Bloomberg.

So you think they're not taxing sugary drinks or only taxing diet drinks?

They had in idea for this......"Revenue from the tax would support various programs aimed at reducing disparities in education outcomes between the city’s white students and students of color"

That is from a link within the link you provided.

And they changed what they initially planned because white people drink more diet soda apparently. Being Democrats, they just added more taxes instead of cancelling the sugar and switching to diet.

So to say this as plainly as I can I'll say it again.

Create tax to mainly help minorities.
Change tax to fuck over white people AND minorities.

    The end.

Try reading more than a paragraph or two.

    Further down in the article.

In February, Murray said the tax would raise $16 million per year. He now says it would raise $23 million per year, most of which would be spent on programs that help low-income and vulnerable children. Those would include before- and after-school programs, summer learning programs, Seattle Colleges scholarships and early learning programs.

Several million dollars in tax revenue would also be spent on efforts meant to increase access to healthful food. Murray says he expects President Donald Trump’s administration to cut the federal grants that support a city program providing people who receive food assistance with vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables.

Yes, we pay taxes that go to support people poorer than us. Some of those people are, wait for it, not white.

No matter how unfair you think it is we will never have a tax system where white people taxes go only to white people, black people taxes go only to black people and poor people taxes go only to poor people.

It says right in the fucking articles that it was for education disparities between whites and people of color.

They're the ones rigging it so white taxes go to people of color.

Why waste the money on the school or some babysitting program with enormous costs and little results? Just take it directly from rich white people and give it to poor black people. I always feel better about skipping the middle man. Same reason I refuse to buy tools from the tool truck guys.

They can drive around in a huge box that gets 5 mpg and sell me stuff? What a waste.

I read every word by the way, also wants 5 year 275 million dollar property tax measure to fight homelessness. Sounds good, why not a billion? 10 billion? 100 billion?

ALL SALES TAXES (taxes on goods) make the poor become poorer.

That is the main goal of sales taxes and not an unwanted byproduct.

Poor children will starve even more regularly when these taxes are enacted.

No amount of designating the taxes to "eat healthy" programs will offset the overall burden on poor people's food budgets (their only income/handout source to pay taxes with.

I should point out these taxes are not going to affect me at all financially as I don't purchase any of these products, other than about 1 bottle of whiskey per year.

Unfortunately unhealthy food is cheap, and everyone at some point has had to figure out ways to stretch a dollar.
Ideally at least imo, taxes on unhealthy foods would go directly into lowering the costs for veggies.
Which will in turn force people to eat more healthy.
I find it sad that it will never work that way.
As big companies won't allow it.
