When the good people of Bismarck protested that they didn't want the Dakota access pipeline to run near they City they said that it would leak. They said that it would cause an environmental disaster. What was done about it? Fuck it will run the pipeline through native land... We don't give a shit about them. They can sit in the snow all fucking winter if they want we'll just round them up, put them in dog crates, shoot them with rubber bullets in the face and run our pipeline through there anyway...

    Now the motherfucker's already leaking...

    Thanks Drumpf...

I don't mean this in the typical "I blame Obama" BS way that gets posted here, but I do wish he'd have acted before leaving office. Not that Trump couldn't/wouldn't undo it like everything else, but it would have spotlighted Trump so much more...

Sounds like they have it under control. Considering the pipeline moves thousands of gallons of oil a day, 84 gallons is minuscule.

It's a pipe. Pipes get leaks. Which is why it's important to have competent people and proper response procedures in place when they do.

Oil companies have never lied about the procedures they have in place. :biglaugh:

How much oil has to get in your food/water before you deem it unsafe for consumption?
I guess more than 84 gallons.
I'm sure the water bureau where you live is happy to hear that. Means you shouldn't mind lead poisoning either.

To me, 1 gallon of oil is too much.

It sounds to me like you want a perfect world. Good luck with that.

By all means...if such a place exists, then I would love to move there.

    That's what she said!

    <tap tap>. Anyone?

    No worries. Just the environment.

There's 84 gallons of oil under the car on blocks on HCP's lawn.

I can remember service stations where and oil change was performed over grated pit dug in the ground.
The pit never filled until it was filled in. Most of those were forced out of action in the 50s.
    Men make progress.

Not at all, I'd just like for people to take responsibility for their actions.
By not attempting to minimize the impact 84 gallons of oil leaking has on the environment. All because thousands of gallons move through it daily.
Not saying you are responsible for the 84 gallons leaking.

I hope the procedures in place work, but if history says anything. Oil companies lie about those procedures.
I asked a history teacher in middle school, "why is history important".
He said. "because if you don't learn from the past your doomed to repeat the mistakes made in history".
I don't trust Oil companies saying. "we have it under control, the procedures in place are adequate."

The surge pump leaked. I am perceiving the failure as a gasket installation mistake. Typically, manufacturers pre test their equipment before shipment. A human was the source of this problem. At least the pipeline company contained the problem as they are trained to do.

The article mentioned an "Official", not an oil company executive. Usually, the term "Official" is given to either the head of local or national government authorities. And given how much of an uproar environmentalists get about anything to do with oil, then I'm quite sure that someone, somewhere, has been keeping a very close eye on this. Which is likely why it was contained and dealt with before it got bigger.

I get skepticism...after all, I'm a gun owner....but not ever trusting anything someone says in defense of anything oil strikes me as a little....narrow-minded.

I think people on here are making way too big of a deal about 84 gallons of contained spillage. Seriously. I would trust a major oil company more than I do some mechanics in town in regards to proper oil containment.

The same very close eye that was kept on the bp before their spill?

It's not about not ever trusting people say. It's about the old saying people like to throw around.
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
I hope you're not saying oil companies or the people who monitor oil companies are above corruption...
As that's like saying the DNC didn't rig the primary's for Clinton.

1 Gallon is too much, 84 Gallons is outrageous.
Even Trump said the materials they were using wasn't up to standard. Yet it was still allowed to be used because "they had already purchased the materials".

I work on cars that leak a large pancake size pool of oil overnight. All the time. Think about how many millions of old cars there are on the roads every day.

So, to sum it up people don't care if it leaks a million gallons a year all over the country but if 84 gallons are leaked but contained that is a disastrous result.

Whatever people read on Facebook is what matters amirite?

If you have an asphalt driveway, your property has more than 84 gallons of oil sitting on what used to be the feeding area for elk and rabbits.

The asphalt parking lot at the hospital has thousands of gallons of oil sitting on what used to be the deer’s birthing area.

The asphalt freeways have millions of gallons of oil sitting on what used to be the game animals travel route to better seasonal feeding areas.

Just putting the oil damage to the environment topic in prospective.

You know I remember back in the 80s how my grandpa washed his hands in gasoline. He was an old fashioned hunter outdoorsman. Yet, I recall he had a big barrel on a concrete pad he used to store old oil. Seems strange that he'd care but he also had a garden and we had a well for our water so that's probably why.

What the fuck? Just because I don't believe there was corruption involved here, you assume that I think that they are above corruption?

What the fuck is wrong with you? You tried this assumption bullshit twice now; you covered it nicely in your last post. But you need to get off my ass about it.

ALL I am saying here is that this is unrealistic. Pipes develop leaks. It is exposed to extreme conditions, and it is carrying a LOT of weight. Cracks develop, seals wear out, joints loosen, and leaks develop. There is NO SUCH THING as an oil pipeline that never leaks.

That is ALL I am saying here. You can bitch and moan about 84 gallons all you want, but it REALLY is minuscule in comparison to how much oil that pipeline carries per day.

It's even more stupid to assume that a leak automatically equals "corruption". Sometimes, a leak is just a leak.

Now fuck off with your assumptions.

My truck/my gf's car don't leak a single drop of fluid due to the preventative maintenance I perform.
Oil companies have shown they don't do enough of this.
Shall I link another south park meme? Or quote my history teacher again?

I can't change the habits of those people whom have cars you work on. But I also don't have to ad to the problem just because everyone else is doing it.
Reminds me of the stories I heard as a child from adults. "I started smoking because everyone else my age was. But don't you do it!"
Ha don't worry I'm not a simply minded fool who picks up a habit to fit in~

Preventative maintenance. Hmm if only "Officials" and Oil companies knew what that term meant.

When I gave you the chance to clarify your response(instead of be sarcastic) you choose to take it as I'm making assumptions. Then get heated and tell me to fuck off?
Maybe I should have been more clear, or maybe you should have made a conscious decision to not speak in such a way.
Either way it looks like we're both wrong due to a failure to communicate.
However I have my doubts you won't come back with a similar response to this post...

    So... to sum up.
I don't accept your answer because you don't choose to accept mine.
Will end the conversation there because this isn't worth it to me.
