After the Captain receives his accolades and his number retired I'd love to see Steinbrenner step out with an announcement that Jeter is now officially a member of the Yankees ownership group. I can only imagine!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've heard there are some flies in that ointment, but again when dealing with the press any story is possible. If I were the Steins I'd have jumped on getting Jeter in there as soon a that story reared its head. Hard to envision Jeter associated with any organization but the Yankees. If Jeter did get in there Cashman would have to start counting his minutes remaining on the job. Garciaparra, A-hole, Tejada, all touted as better than Jeter, it ain't how you start it's how you finish and Jeter did with a flourish.

^^^Yanx are already on the hook...and if he does not have a good year he has no reason to opt out because he knows that he won't get a better deal than the one he already has with the Yanx which pays him $22 Mil for 2018 and 2019 and $23 Mil for 2020...he also has a full NTC.
...Yanx are pretty much stuck with him.
