On the one hand, I think there are absolutely some mentally ill Muslim terrorists.... I think the guy who did the Orlando shooting was most likely mentally disturbed.

But I also think there are actually terror networks that will pay money to essentially buy suicide bombers. They'll make sure your family is taken care of if you go through with it. I'm not aware of any such network for Christians.

I also think terrorism is a premeditated act. It is something that's done to convey a political message. What happened on that train was absolutely a hate crime.... but I'm not sure if I would call it terrorism.... unless he went on there with the intent to create a scene, draw people in, and then attack them. If that's the case, I would probably call it terrorism.

Probably going to try and claim self defense. Three guys grabbing him after he asked them to stop. Going to say he was afraid for his life. I doubt a jury buys it

One problem, I am 100% positive there is video footage of the entire event. The MAX trains have very good video cameras. I'm not sure if they have audio (they probably do) but at any rate I'm sure there's a clear picture of what happened, who did what, and the police should be able to make a very clear case about his guilt.

Also, it's hard to claim self defense when you're accosting two underage girls and someone tries to stop you.

I don't know how he's going to have a fair trial though. How do you find jurors for something like that?

I'd serve on that jury. I'd like to think I'm capable of being objective, even in the face of a horrific crime like this.

Probably true--attorneys like to sway with emotion; probably don't like people who are overly analytical.

My wife got called up and interviewed for a grand jury. They asked her what her spouse did. She told them and immediately eliminated her. She was pretty happy.

So apparently they even got rid of her even because of what her spouse did. They really hate us.

Well his arraignment was.....chilling. He's fucking crazy. I actually feel bad for trying to politicize his actions and general POV. It wasn't fair. Crazy, loony, motherfucker. That's it.

No shit....hmmm. Apparently people think I'm calling them pussies for escalating a situation. Or that I don't care because they were Muslims. I'll trade people who "post like Barfo" for 1000 Muslims at a time.

I'm sorry but if people are so brainwashed that they think pushing a nutjob's buttons is helping they are fucking delusionial.

Y'all are out of your goddamn minds. If you see a rabid pitbull on the street, just go kick it why don't you?

If you think there's a chance I'm right that they wouldn't have died if they'd sat down then you need to make sure and tell everyone so. If one of the deceased antagonized this nutcase he could have gotten the girls killed too.

But you morons would be happy because someone said something mean. So fuck the guy with kids and his family. He died for nothing.

Sure, you are absolutely right. If they'd said nothing and not tried to help, there is a chance they would have lived.

Now let's all retreat to our armed bunkers and never help our fellow man, because there's always a chance that something bad might happen if we do.

Self-preservation is the highest and only moral obligation.

Just so I understand, I can go down on the Strip and wait for the right wing nutjob Christian group that was yelling to me that I'm going to hell to do it again and then attack them right?

I mean, this wacko just told them to leave his country. I'm told there is a heaven and I can't go but in fact I'm going to burn. Seems worse, just because I was born predisposed to reject religion why should I be discriminated against.

Then, when my wife is alone and loses the house she'll feel good knowing I stood up for myself.

Hey, road rage with a white supremacist and when you cause a ten car pile up and kill 12 people you'll be a righteous dude hero to all.

I mean, he called you the N word in traffic. Murder him.

Tell me I'm wrong. If the two girls got stabbed because their hero escalated a heated situation with a nutjob and he was too strong to be stopped, would you think their family was wrong to sue?

And what if the girls got stabbed because no one tried to stop him?

You seem to be assuming the guy was wearing a neon sign that said "I have a knife, and if you try to stop me I will slash your throats". That isn't the usual situation, so there's not a lot of reason why these guys should have assumed that outcome. I don't know the statistics, but there must be many thousands of confrontations that don't end with throats being cut.

    Yes, you are wrong.

So if the guy never had a knife out until our "hero" pushed him and the nutso went crazy and stabbed the girls the parents have no standing to sue?

Right....I don't have to be a lawyer or even sleep at a Holiday inn Express to know that's bullshit.

If the older guy died trying to stop a fight between the nutjob and the young guy his family will probably sue. The young guy's family, the city of Portland and so on.

the lack of compassion by some people is truly saddening. Someone PM me on of those "This will help you restore your faith in humanity" vids please. Cause this thread is the opposite of that.

Compassion isn't missing. Acting like this is a good outcome isn't compassionate at all.

If people want to perpetuate the myth that their lives aren't worth protecting that's their fault. If the dead kid literally just tried to save these girls from certain death I'd cry like a baby hearing about it.

I cry when I see poor abused dogs on tv. I don't when someone drowns trying to rescue a stray dog on a thinly frozen over lake.

I feel bad for them that they made such a terrible decision. That isn't lack of compassion.

You can all have a cry if you want. If I can get one person to see how stupid this was (if everything I've seen is true) then it's worth looking like an asshole.
