Is it too early to talk about the draft and who ya'll think we should go after? This year we have the 37th, 48th, and 60th picks. All 2nd rounders.I think we really wont get a ton of talent with those picks, but we could do a few things with them. I havent really put much thought into who we should try and get, but I have an idea on what kind of players this team needs. Here's a rough draft wish list from me. It really is somewhat like last years.1. A backup post player with some kind of post game and an overall hustle player2. A shooting guard that can shoot the 3 very well. Someone who can stretch the defense. Someone who can come off the bench and score well.
We actually can get some talent as this is to be one of the deeper drafts the NBA has had in a while. On NBA Draft.net it says Glen Davis won't be chosen and he is a great player, I think we should pick him up.
Its always hard to judge a second round pick. Like Saint said, this draft is deep. You could get a steal at any point. With 3 second rounders, its likely that they all wont make the team.Right now its pretty hard to pick players and name names. But Glen Davis would be interesting. I've always wanted to see how can play basketball on a professional level
I don't think Glen would in particular fit Avery's system. Now on the picks, I would like to see us try and put them together and move up in the draft. I just don't see the Mavs staying put with all three picks. With the team already having Ager, Pops and Barea. Adding more of the same, whilst making a competitive training camp, isn't needed on a team ready to win now.But say, we do keep the picks. The Hawks one is the only interest to me as Donnie put it as a "high first rounder." We should just take the BPA at that spot. Just to note, in one of these upcoming drafts, I'd like the Mavs to try and stash a prospect. One to develop and groom into our franchise when Dirk steps down. This draft I like Tiago Splitter and Yi Jialian as prospects. Both are first rounders though. Mavs need to move up imo this year.
I think if we want we can def. move up.Something like Mo Ager and 2 of our 2nd rounders for like the 19th or something is doable imo.

I see absolutely NO reason why we could package two of those picks, at least, and move up into the early 20's of the first round...maybe throw in a player, and move into the high teens. They don't need to pick players, or trade picks for "future considerations" or the like. We need to get a player, who alog with Ager and Pops, can develop into decent to good players for us in a few years.
I don't know about ya'll but I am starting to not like Mo Ager... I know he is trying to get noticed by Avery and all but every time I watch him he is ball hogging and shooting on a low percentage... I watched Flyers games regularly when JJ, Pops, and Mo were on that team and Mo was still ball hogging over there..

I don't see him being traded really. One thing I noticed is he's developed a friendship with Diop. Next year should be the year we either become a fan of Ager or not. When he gets regular playing time.
^I think it's too early to tell anything about Ager. He only plays when the game isn't on the line, so you can't really tell if he's just a ball hog because he's trying to get noticed, and it won't hurt the team, or if he'll be a ball hog and take bad shots all the time.If he plays more next year, and plays legit minutes, we might find that he's just as unselfish as JET, Howard, and Stack, and will only shoot when he's open...as he should be with the other talent on the court. All I'm saying, is that I'm with Rok...I'm taking a wait and see approach.
Here's my thoughts on Ager. I really havent seen enough of him to decide if he's going to fit or if he's just going to be a bust. But, here are a few things I'll say about him. Yes, he does shoot a ton when he's in the game, but lets take into consideration that when he plays, its a) at the end of the game and is considered "garbage" time and this means that he is the best scorer and shooter on the floor at that given time. If you notice, they are mostly shots late in the shot clock since they are trying to waste the clock. Now are some of his shots forced and should he maybe make the extra pass some of the time? Yes, but take some of that into consideration before you claim him as the next comming of Antione Walker. Also, I actaully saw a game a while back where he didnt play just garbage time. He actaully came in during the middle of the 2nd quarter. He was playing with starters and regulars. He brought him off because we were in foul trouble and George and Buckner didnt play. He came in and played about 8 minutes during the course of the game and didnt make any clear mistakes. I specifically watched him on defense and he didnt get out of position and grabbed a few rebounds. On the offensive end, he didnt force or anything, so I think he really could be promising. Remember guys, he can still drive and shoot really well, has great athleticism and size at 6-5 for the shooting guard spot, and is fairly smart and coachable since Avery and Donnie had some kind of confidance in him since they took him. With saying all that, yes, he still hasnt proved anything in the league and has a ton of room to improve. I'm just not going to say he's a bust just yet and needs to be replaced with some other player.
The Mavs are always looking for help...that's why there's Nobody on their roster from the 99' adn 2000' seasons, when they really started to be good and contend for a title, and now...except for Dirk of course. The Mavs, much like the Spurs, have one of the best front offices around, and are always making moves for guys to keep both teams good. The only difference is that the Spurs usually look to FA and get vets, while the Mavs have stayed younger, and look for the draft(Howard, Harris, Ager and the like.)

To throw out another name. How about Richard Roby, Colorado. If you dont know who he is or havent seen him play. He is just one of those gifted guys. He has such an amazing shot. Also is just an all around athletic player, just like his half brother Kenyon Martin. All aspects of being a athletic...long arms, good stealer, good rebounder for a 2. He's only a Jr, doesn't know if he'll go pro or not. If its this draft or next draft, I could see him falling to the second round, mainly because Colorado isnt a high profile NCAA team. Could replace Stackhouse? As a player he's good. I personally I have lost some respect for him. Last season he had some rude remarks twords OU
I like Roby even though last year he had some bad workouts leading up to the draft, which is why he pulled out. But he seems like a solid pro, an Allan Houston type. But I rather go for a different position then a 2 guard because we picked Ager last year.
