Interesting reading the different points of view on what to do with this dude. But I sort of take these observations as part of a the new world. Fifty years ago we did not let nut jobs run freely about the city challenging people to combat. Now apparently we are going to do so and consider what ever shit they do as free speech until they take it to a crime like sticking some poor SOB. I think it is silly to advise people to be heroes in the face of an armed threat. You never know what the threats capabilities are and that is why we have in the past relied on police to handle the menace. But it appears they will not do anything with these types before the disaster happens and there are no guards on trains. I conclude a person should be armed if you going to live in this environment. Taking on an armed threat while unarmed and without protection is not a sound plan. Accepting combat when unarmed is not a sound plan unless it is force upon you, And then survival is questionable depending on your training and physical capacity. However the later is true even when you are armed. You really do not want untrained armed people riding the trains so we all need training and each should have lost their fear of weapons before boarding. The weapon of choice should be adequate to stop the aggressor, but of moderate power to avoid hitting others. That means close range with intent to render the aggressor motionless while making a special effort to insure his body absorbs each round. .22 Long Rifles, the first to the heavy body mass (liver) to freeze him and the next two to the nose and the Medula oblongata behind if he remains erect after the first. If he bends over, then the next two to the top of the head down into the neck. The human body should absorb all three rounds fired from less than 5 feet to insure they are delivered on target. Heavier armament is inappropriate in the crowed environment. Leadership is failing in every aspect of this case.

I've actually thought pepper spray misters would be good in an emergency. The problem is people pulling the handle and jumping off or just taking the pain so everyone else has to. When I lived in East Las Vegas I kept getting graffiti on my wall, was going to rig something up and watch for them on a night vision camera.
