Cash was wrong about Ellsbury, but he did pull the trigger on Hicks and took a lot of shit for it last year too, Just goes to show that the GM job isn't science and thankless at that.
Weird events on those '14 moves. Yankees get Beltran, McCann, Tanaka, and Ellsbury after Cano Weird results on those '14 events, Cano leaves, enter Ellsbury, Beltran, McCann, and Tanaka. I remember posting here who needs Cano look at what came in. Unfortunately the end results of placing those individuals with some incumbent prima donnas did not work out as Yankees Fans had hoped. The '15 team blew a 7 game lead was swept in their own yard by Toronto prompting Tex to make his "bump in the road" comment. Beltran and McCann played on the Yankee Team that lost the one & done playoff game to Houston in '15. Both now are helping at this time to get the Astros to a Division Champ. Yankees made out better with what those two brought back when traded. Ellsbury has never lived up to what the team thought he could do. Contract or no contract, I'd let Ellbury sit as long as Hicks keeps on keeping on. Don't know what got into Tanaka, supposed "ace' now getting out pitched by the old man of the staff. The broadcast crews say Tanka is now facing failure for the first time in his career let him straighten up in the minors because as shaky as the pen is they can't send him out every 5th day. So they skipped his Baltimore start so he could face the "light hitting" Angels. Those Angels kicked the shit out of the Astros last night so we'll see how that works.
Let's pamper Tanka all the way! Pitch him every 6th day. I doubt this will help. Yankees gambled with Jordan Montgomery. Why not do it again with Chance Adams? Let Tanka work out his problem in Scranton. Yankees probably won't bring Adams up. They will likely pitch Chad Green or Bryan Mitchell this Sunday. Also, hearing that Tommy Layne, Boston reject, may be moved out.
Also, a note about pitching Tanka against a "light hitting" team..........a pitcher having problems will usually make 'light hitting' teams become powerhouses. Besides, you can be sure the Angels will be chomping at the bit come Monday's game. Good luck, Tanka. Yankee manager & GM have literally placed Tanka right into the frying pan!
...I think I read somewhere that Girardi was asked about Ellsbury returning and he indicated that he has already decided that Hicks will stay in the line up...not sure if that means as an OFer of DH.
