There are many minors who do this kind of thing and get help and never reoffend. There are also many who do reoffend. The sad thing for this kid is for the rest of his life if you Google his name this is what you will see. He obviously did a horrible thing, and I don't know much about the facts here and his personal situation, but just because he did this when he was 13 doesn't mean his life should be over in my opinion.
It depends upon the mental state. If a little girl was molested her whole life, then started molesting a little boy when she was 13, would you feel the same way?
Bottom line is each case isn't black and white. They should be judged on a case by case basis. What kip kinkel did was horrible. What luke heimlich did was horrible. They will have to live with what they did the rest of their lives whether they care or not. But, if someone truly changes, does their time that is legally asked of them, should we still take them out back and old yeller them? Idk. The answer isn't that simple really. I do agree with canzano and think heimlichs act of excusing himself from playing showed some maturity. I hope for everyones sake that dude really has rehabilitated himself. Feel awful for the victim who has to relive all of this over again with it being brought up again.
Yup. It doesn't matter if it's a boy or a girl. Sexual abuse is sexual abuse. My question, if this was a case of him being abused when he was younger, why hasn't that come to light?
Because we do not have all of the facts and should not be so quick to judge without them. If he was molested, he may not want anyone knowing. If he were to blame his abuse for his indescretions, his victim could see it as him not taking responsibility for his actions.
The bottom line for me is whether the person can be rehabilitated and not a high risk of doing it again.
I just think it really sucks that this kid is about to compete for a national championship and loses his dream because someone dug this up......there were only 6 more games and they could have brought it out after Omaha.....very bad timing....he's been through this issue and showed a lot of maturity to step aside from the team to not distract their amazing run...I find the timing of this leak very suspicious.
Some pedophiles are pedophiles for life. Are all of them attracted to little kids for the rest of their lives? I don't know. Are all pedophiles victims of abuse? Why do some go on to abuse others, while some do not? And they're not all attracted to the same age bracket. Some like girls in their pre-teens. Some like infants. I knew a weird guy when I was a kid. He was home schooled and he was in my theater company. There was just something off about him, even then. Recently he was convicted. http://www.oregonlive.com/oregon-city/index.ssf/2014/12/oregon_city_man_with_sexual_in.html What causes someone to be attracted to infants? I don't pretend to know what causes attraction. Whether it's biological or psychological. But I'm not convinced it can be cured.
You shouldn't have to "dig it up." The whole point of making sexual predators register is that it's supposed to follow them around for the rest of their life. That's part of the punishment. You don't get to hide from it. He did two years of counseling and 2 years probation. That was his punishment, to go with having to register. That little girl has to live with this for the rest of her life, and so does he.
As we've acknowledged, obviously, this situation is messed up. Dude f'd up. But did we ever hear anything about why the O decided to break the story the day before the biggest game of dude's career? So it'd be a much bigger story and draw more traffic to increase the O's relevancy? To maximize the damage to the player? I mean, the O has known about this for some time.
How long? A month? If you believe their story, they took time to fully vett the story, get all the details and then release it. They even brought an actual investigative journalist on when they realized the magnitude of the story. From what I have read, the series of events happened like this: Danny Moran was doing a fluff piece on Heimlich. He interviewed him several times. During the process of writing the article, they ran a standard background check. The background check brought up the charge from April that Heimlich had failed to register within a certain number of days after his 21st Birthday. At that point he said that he saw it was sex offender charge, so he requested the files from Washington to find out what it was all about. He got the files and the O brought in a second journalist to help him do the actual research. I don't think they were sitting on it for a long time. Canzano said they knew since late May, and that it took some time to fully vett the story. It makes sense. They could open themselves up to a lawsuit if they weren't completely sure about what they were reporting.
When did they start caring about that? I have seen them write a bunch of stuff that was completely false. That i know for a fact was false. Because i had seen the communications between media outlets and particular individuals. Usually they just say "oh whoops" and put a note at the bottom that says they apologize for misrepresenting after the damage of the article originally hitting caused damage.
somebody did....that's why you and I know about it at all....to air it during the championship run and not half a decade ago is my issue with this. in the end...that journalist may have ended his baseball career....the kid said as much the other day.....I wish people would judge me by who I am today instead of when I was 15....he paid for his crime. Now he's on trial by public opinion and it's cost him his job probably
Why do you care? That little girl is going to have to live with her experiences for the rest of her life. She didn't ask for it. She has to live with it. Sorry if I don't weep for this guy not being able to go on and make millions of dollars in the pros. He is pursuing a career that involves being in the public eye. That's HIS choice. He wants to play a game that pays millions of dollars. He didn't have to do that. I'm sure there are other people with similar criminal records who are able to live a quiet life where few people know about their past. You're overlooking the fact that he chose this path. Sorry, but if you want a career in the public eye, you have to be prepared for having all of your shit dug up. That goes hand in hand with that type of life.
c'mon Nate.....the girl was abused...she's been through the court process...he plead guilty...they go on with their lives and she probably receives counseling...there's no way to go back and undo this....you're asking why I care? Read my posts and all I've done are raise concerns about the way this is being handled and the timing of the leak. I'm not advocating child abuse....won't fall for that bait. My point is we don't have the files or details to make judgements just because we all abhor pedophilia...it's all a moot point now anyway...the kid has stepped away from the team. I'm assuming you think he should be punished by public opinion?
I don't weep for that either but he could have won a championship in 6 more games after helping his team get there....I've mentioned that...my point was the timing of the press leak. He didn't plead not guilty either...he plead guilty. You don't see the timing of this as suspicious? If he ever plays pro ball it will be because he's mastered the art of pitching, not because he doesn't have personal issues.
