They start here in 25 minutes. You'll have to wait til 8pm PST in Oregon though. It used to always conflict with the NBA Finals until last year. I always had my priorities straight though. Recorded Tonys, watched game live. With ONE exception. I was ON the Tonys in 2000 during Game 7 of WCF. My brother described the game to me right up to when I went onstage (up 16) and then again once I got offstage (up 8). Anyway. I'm pulling for DEAR EVAN HANSEN which I thought was the best musical this year. Also, Gavin Creel of HELLO DOLLY may become the first U of Michigan (where I went) Musical Theater Grad to win a Tony as a performer tonight. And Michigan Musical Theater Grads Justin Paul and Benj Pasek may win for Best Score (after winning an Oscar for LaLa Land). Go Blue!!!
So my good friends sister dates Will Roland who plays Jared Kleinman in "Dear Even Hansen." I know nothing about him, her or the play, but I am Facebook friends with my buddies sister, so I see post about this play all the time.
He's great in the show. It's a great story but I don't want to give it away. Get a ticket when the tour comes through.
My parents are MUSICAL JUNKIES and have season tickets in anything that comes through. I've only seen the original cast recording of Miss Saigon. But Jonathan Pryce is a revelation as The Engineer and deserved the Tony for "The American Dream" number alone. My major problem with musicals is in some parts of the production. So many are Disney-fied.... Great staging, great set design, great choreography.... ohhh and then you don't out that the storybook is crap. But I have a lot of respect for people that make their living in musical theater. It's a lifetime of dedication for old classical form of entertainment. I just wish I had more hits than misses. It can be frustrating.
