A gunman opened fire at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday morning, wounding House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, members of his security detail, a congressional staffer, and a lobbyist in a scene that one lawmaker said could have been a “massacre.” There were no immediate fatalities as a result of the shooting, although President Donald Trump announced during a televised address Wednesday morning that the shooter had died as a result of injuries sustained in an exchange of gunfire with U.S. Capitol Police.
