What are some solid role players that every team would love to have? Here's my list:Shane BattierBruce BowenDerek FisherReggie EvansDavid LeeJason KaponoRyan GomesTyson ChandlerAndris BiedrinsPJ BrownJeff FosterRuben PattersonKurt ThomasAnderson Varejao
I saw the title of the thread and I said to myself "If Ryan Gomes isn't on that list I'm going to choke somebody." Glad he's getting the respect he deserves here, because he's, dare I say, one of the best role players in the NBA. He's a great shooter out to 18-20 feet, he can beat bigger fours with his speed and post up smaller threes, he's a great weak side rebounder, and one of the most intelligent rebounders in general. He understands positioning on the rebounds, and can occasionally even outmuscle people for them. I LOVE RYAN GOMES. I'm so glad Danny picked him.

During the '04 draft, I really wanted Detroit to take him. But we ended up getting Maxiell, so I'm not complaining. Tayshaun Prince anyone (or are people leaving him off lists because he's a border-line all-star, so not really a role player)? Can play positions 1-4, great perimeter defender, solid 3-point shooter, and could score a lot more if he wasn't on Detroit. Any team could use him.
people disagree and agee with me on this, but its just my opinion, I dont feel like arguing it.Ben Wallace
Two people: Jose Calderon and Anthony ParkerI seriously think you should consider those two on your list.Parker:Can knock down the jumper at any time, wicked amazing defender. Team player, natural leader. Knows the NBA, good passer, the only thing he needs to work on is his driving. (Shooting 46% also)Calderon:Really fast off the dribble, can get you 10 assists a night if need be. Also a team player. Average defender. Passing is amazing, he always beats you too the bucket, plus he fixed his jump shot this year. (He is shooting nearly 50%, yeah thats right.)
MardyC man, can you tell me how mardy Collins has good leadership being a rookie? Not saying he doesn't I would just like for you to give me an example.Andre Miller is a great role player teams would like to have. He is an established starting PG, cant really score that well, but is a passing guru. He can also run any offense well.

Man this is one of my favorite topics, I love role players because their that essential glue that holds good teams together.I saw someone laughing at Mardy Collins, I don't know if he brings leadership....but I have seen him play a few times and he's a pretty servicable player coming off the bench. I would agree Collins is a good role player.Ryan Gomes without a question. Smart, athletic, quick at the 4, can rebound, and has developed a trusty outside jump shot.Adrian Griffin-Always loved this guy even way back when he was on the Celtics. Can grab some rebounds, distribute the ball, play some D, no jumper but definately a guy who can plug in some good minutes.Ruben Patterson-Tenacious defender, always hustling, can do a little bit of everythingKenny Thomas-Good undersized forward, don't really know what his offensive game entails but it seems he always can find a way to score. Another guy who always hustles.Kendrick Perkins-Still up and coming, but this guy will be a role player for his career. We thought in Boston he might be a starting center but he isn't. Still, he's a presence in the paint, can block some shots, definately can grab some boards, and most importantly plays with heart. This guy looks like he's going to kill someone when he gets taken out of the game.Brian Skinner-Absolute Bull, always grabbing rebounds, always bangin down low.
One guy that I really like, and hasn't been mentioned in this thread for some reason, is Eduardo Najera. The guy is so aggressive, he's so physical, and he hustles as much as anyone. He's a hard worker, a class act, and he's not afraid to get his nose dirty and do all the dirty work.I also really like Trenton Hassell. He's very aggressive, a good perimeter defender, he's unselfish, he is athletic, and he works very hard.Delonte West is going to be an excellent role player for a long time in this league. He's an excellent shooter, a combo guard, a true hustler, can rebound well for a 6'2''-6'3'' guy, and the charisma he has is just outstanding. It's very easy to like Delonte, I don't see how people can not like him or his personality. He's a true warrior.Matt Harpring has always been a solid player as well. He can shoot, he moves without the ball, plays hard, never complains.
I'm going to do mine a little different. I'll do a starting lineup. A center, two fowards, and two gaurds. Also, I'm not going to mention players already mentioned.CENTER-Alonzo MourningIssuch an intimidating force off the bench. This stage of his career he comes off the bench plays great defense and doesn't complain about getting touches on the offensive end. Has had to start a ton this season w/ Shaq injured, but is still no doubt a role player on that Heat team.FOWARDS-Luke WaltonI'm really suprised that [Luke Walton hasn't been mentioned yet. Yes, he might be a product of the triangle, but there is no doubt that this guy could play and be effective in almost any offense in the league. In his first 3 seasons he only showed spirts of his skill, but in last seasons playoffs and this season he is much imroved. The guy is averaging 12, 5, and 4 in about 30 minutes a night. He has incredible court vision and is shooting 40% from 3pt range. Nick CollisonThe guy can be considered a late bloomer in many respects. Is nearly averaging a double-double in only about 28 minutes. GUARDS-Leandro BarbosaThe guy is really a great role player on a stacked Phoenix team. Maybe not the guy you want to run your offense for long periods of time as he plays better when he doesn't have to be the primary ball handler. This season he is in the running for Most Improved and is averaging 17 and 4 in about 30 minutes a game. Stats might be inflated since he is in the run and gun system of the Suns, but still, 17 points is hard to score comming off the bench. Shoots 43% from 3 point range.Brevin KnightHe's the great veteran on that Bobcat team. Has great floor presense at the point guard position. Great floor vision and floor general. Is averaging about 10 points and 7 assists this year, but does so much more for his team than just give them numbers. Here are just a few guys that I would love to have on the Dallas bench and I'm sure would be great on just about any other team. Oh, here's one more: Andris Biedrins. He's a double double machine now in Golden State.
^^Thank GOD someone said Barbosa. How could you not want instant offense on your team?I agree with pretty much everyones choices except for Mardy Collins .
PG - Devin Harris, Chris DuhonSG - Leandro Barbosa, Raja BellSF - Kyle Korver, Luke Walton, Bruce BowenPF/C - David Lee, Alonzo Mourning, Nick Collison, Chris Webber, Reggie Evans
