Burgers 'n' more. That place is LEGIT as far as fast food burgers goes. Love that place, it's about 5 blocks from the house.
Nobody wants to live in Washington. They do it for the taxes (and the historic feeling - are roads paved up there, yet?). That feeling Portlanders are accused of, being Seattle's stepchild? That's how Portlanders feel about Vancouver.
You don't speak for everyone. I love this city, and having grown up here, I've gathered over the years that most people who live here do as well. We look at Portland as some kind of bizarre place to be avoided when possible. Vancouver is far more quiet, laid-back, suburban, organized, and Conservative. There's a LOT to be desired about that. By the way...I'm speaking for Vancouver, not Washington.
I don't speak for everyone. But I'm telling you what most Portland folks feel about Vantucky. No need to get defensive. Just telling you as 6th generation Oregonian, it's the general consensus.
If you say so. I personally had a burger from there that tasted like it came from walmart. Also had more bread than anything else. Won't go there ever again.
It's fast food, dude. I dunno what your experiences or expectations are. Mine are low. I don't ever expect consistency or perfection. You prolly had it on a bad day. But it's legit. it's cheaper than McD's. A third of the price at the local McMenamin's. They have good friends. I eat fast food maybe 2-3 times per month. I've never had a bad meal there.
And by the way, I just want to clarify: I was speaking only of Vancouver, not Washington. And only of Portland, not Oregon. Take away Seattle, and most of Washington is beautiful. Take away Portland, and most of Oregon is beautiful. They're like two warts on the face of the Mona Lisa. No hurt feelings. No need to be condescending.
Wasn't being condescending. Can blow the whole shit-hole that is the Portland-Vancouver Metro off the map for all I care. There's little I enjoy there in that whole shit entrapment of traffic. Terrible, terrible planning of sence of foresight. And the two sides can't agree on anything.
Sorry, but 63 years of experiencing both cities has cemented my opinions about each. But kudos to Vancouver for embracing endless sprawl and making an attempt to put the infrastructure in place to try and deal with it.....at least their hearts were in the right place......
Dang. You got mine (Enchanted Forest). Artic Circle down here was flattened years ago. It was Bobs before that, for many, many years. Sad.... If you want to go somewhere exciting, I'd recommend finding out which Wal-Mart Sly goes to, and stroll around there for awhile..... (j/k)
The Mac Wal-Mart is worth is a visit. Just for the views. Miller Woods is a great 4+ mile outdoor stroll. Couple other basic but solid outdoor hikes out here.
Endless sprawl? Come on man....we're not exactly North Dakota or Texas here. Personally, I much prefer the layout of this city to that of Portland. Portland is WAY too crammed together and urban for my tastes (not to mention the politics). I guess that's just a matter of personal opinion. I've always said that Vancouver has the perfect mix of "uptown feel" and "Spread-out sticks and suburbia". If you want a modern, high-rise Vancouver with a touch of Liberalism, then go to West Vancouver. But even there, there is still a touch of grass-roots Conservatism that balances it out perfectly. And if you want a more "down-to-earth" Suburbia, then head East to Cascade Park and the surrounding areas. I like it. I feel it balances itself out wonderfully. Again....I guess it's a matter of personal opinion. OP, if you're going to visit Vancouver, check out Fort Vancouver and the Barracks. And check out Down Town Vancouver in the West. There's not a ton to do, but there's a good waterfront just south of there, as well as Esther Short Park to hang out in, with a Starbucks nearby and a playground for the kids.
Winner---> SILVER CREEK FALLS! We went a month ago, and the weather was BEAUTIFUL! Take a picnic lunch to save some bucks, and play in the water....
Vantucky wouldn't exist without Portland. It's just Portland sprawl/burbs. But Cascade Park, Camas, 4th Plain, Mill Plain.... Kill me now. That was shit traffic a decade before Portland traffic became the death hole it is now. Used to have to drive through much of it twice/week back for 6-7 years.
Silver Creek Falls is amazing. Great, great hike. Hit the big natural pool for a dip. Haven't done that in 4-5 years.
PLEASE, for the love of Jehovah, if you are going to play in the water, BE CAREFUL! Every summer I hear the same things over and over and over about people drowning on the waterways in this area. High Rocks seems to be the biggest culprit. BE SAFE! I would be heartbroken if the kids from any of our members here drowned. Dude, Vancouver existed before Portland did. Hello? Fort Vancouver? Founded in 1830-something? It was a Military post before it was a city. I'll grant you that Mill Plain can be ungodly, but it depends on the time of day. Rush hour....ugh, yeah, it can be pretty bad. Fourth Plain...eh, it depends on where you go. NE Fourth Plain, west of Andresen, is pretty spotty. There's a few places on Fourth Plain that are pretty poor and have the highest crime rate. From Andresen west to I-5, that whole area is not a place I'd want to be alone in on foot at night. The biggest problem with Fourth Plain are the people who use it during rush hour to try and avoid SR-500, because they don't want to sit through the lights on SR-500. During rush hour, it can be utter hell traveling on SR-500 with those goddamn traffic lights. But SR-500 can handle the traffic, but not the middle of the city during rush hour, which is why Fourth Plain clogs up so much down around Falk Road (I used to live in The Glenn townhouses down there when we first moved here). Fourth Plain is more sparse traffic-wise once you get past I-205. and up towards 503.
