I get what you mean, that will be uber depressing. I think we take two picks in the draft, but I'd be fine with one if it was the right player.

Shocking to see French 6'5" PG Frank Ntilikina all the way down to 14 in the latest DX mock. If he drops farther, how would Blazer fans feel about him being selected at that spot as "best player available" despite not being at all a position of need?

Just wanted to point out that Quick's report,
    https://www.blazersedge.com/2017/6/...blazers-trade-rumors-nba-draft-meyers-leonard

contradicts an earlier report that the Blazers were not impressed with what they saw on Monday (unless they saw something they really liked earlier). No idea which is true.

If we use our picks to shed salary to undo some mistakes we made last year, I will be pissed. That's not why you accumulate assets.

PA spent a shit load of $ to get those picks-- I highly doubt he will then use those same picks to save $. Makes no sense.

If Olshey uses those picks to undo the very spending he did last summer, what a waste.

Some discussion of the Knicks thinking Leonard has value and would fit well in the triangle.

The thing about "salary dumps" is that they usually involve older useless players like varajaeo, mozgov, etc. If you're attaching a first (especially this year) to a 24-25 year old like Leonard, you should get SOME value back.

Why do guys like Quick keep saying they want to dump salary to get flexibility... no trade will give Blazers cap room... this is only about saving Paul Allen money

Phil Jackson apparently believes you can only have one tall white shooter and seems to want Markkanen to fill that roster slot.

If Allen doesn't want to pay the luxury tax, then the luxury tax apron is a second type of cap that the Blazers can get "room" under. Probably for a Nurkic extension.

Exactly. It's not like we will be able to use the cap space in free agency, we won't be players in free agency for the next 3-4 years at all unless we also offload one of Dame or CJ, and even then it's possible we will still not have enough. On top of that, we had what, $40M in free cap last year? And we got Evan Turner as a return for that.

It'd only be to free up cap space to avoid paying luxury tax and more capable of extending Nurkic and maybe Vonleh next year. We can do that later, maybe some of the young players like Crabbe or Leonard start playing half decently and we find it easier. If Miles Plumlee's behemoth of a deal can be dealt twice then it's not unthinkable they will also go somewhere for an expiring contract or 2nd rounders or something.

You mean like all those Plumlee for Nurkic rumors? Olshey runs a very tight ship, so the less I hear the less concerned I am.

There was some Nurkic discussion before the trade happened....it just didn't come from Portland.

From my Draft guru buddy D69.

Who said that? I thought Jackson might like Turner, but Leonard?!!! Oops, I see it's already answered.

    Sup.

But yeah those weren't reports. Just suggestions. And they didn't include Plumlee

And that reminds me; I dreamed up a trade a couple weeks ago where we trade Turner and Leonard and our three draft picks for Carmelo and #8 and #44.

No. In the NBA, quality > quantity. In general, you win the trade if you get the best player involved. Presumably, the player picked at No. 15 SHOULD be better than either of the other two. Having Leonard on the roster isn't hampering the team in any way. If you don't like him, sit him on the end of the bench or trade him for a future second rounder. Or maybe his body heals up, he spends his summer talking to a sports psychologist, and he's more productive next season. Many things are possible. ;)
