Lots of Nick Bonino rumors. If they pay that guy 4m a year I am going to be fucking furious. He is a good 3c w a good playoff track record in Pitt playing w top talent, nothing more. He will not be a good fit here cuz they will have to pay him more than he deserves and if that is the Center backfill for Stepan I am going to be angry

I don't have a problem with Bonino if it's only a 2 year deal. That way if Andersson is ready, he can take the 4th line role. He's decent on draws as well.

Sounds like Gagner is in play too and may be a nice value at his price with the pts he could provide.

Not a fan of Gagner. Still think a deal is the right way to go.

No way Bonino signs for anything less than 4 years. He's 29 he wants a good contract

Not too concerned about it. We won't go nuts and sign a guy like Bonino for a crazy deal. If he wants 4 or 5 years no shot Gorton does that.

My hope is Gorton has some surprises up his sleeve. We'll find out in 2 days.

Yea since he won 2 cups he's chasing money. Probably would be down to sign with a team like Phoenix or Florida that would give him a big contract

Saw Girardi to TB could be close. Good for him. On Shatt i think we will come in at around 6/37.5m which is very fair. Can't see him turning them down for a rebuilding NJ or Buffalo who isn't all that close yet. Not over less then 1m.

Sounds like Buffalo is a big player for him. They have good young talent. Possible I'd think. I have to think Gorton has a plan, I have no clue what it is though. Normally you'd know we are going for a big fish, but not so sure this year. A part of me says Shatt will be a Ranger until he signs somewhere else, but I also know we won't be the highest bidder in years or money. So how much does he want to be here? And if not him...who?

Wonder if they look at Campbell as a plan for maybe 2y if it falls through. Would allow more for a better C.

Yeah at this point they should look at Thorton and Pouliot. He's old but he still a great center. Zib and Hayes are not top tier centers

I have a feeling Thornton stays in SJ but Marleau would be cheaper and would probably take a 1-2y deal. I bet Gagner ends up in NY.

Another awful faceoff guy is not what this team needs. Andersson believes he can make this team this year.

I do think we need to add a C who can win big face-offs. I was never a big face-off/puck possession guy, but the past couple of seasons have changed my opinion on that. Now I do think they can be overrated sometimes, but our #'s have been so poor it is difficult to act like they don't matter/haven't been a big issue for us. I think it all starts with winning face-offs.

We also knock the PP a lot, we did finish 10th last season but collapsed down the stretch and in the playoffs, and I think losing face-offs also really hurts the PP as well.

So while it isn't the only thing, I do think we need to look at adding a guy who we can count on to win face-offs at a high %.

During a conversation on Sportsnet 590 this morning, Elliotte Friedman said that he thinks Shattenkirk "really wanted" to go to the Rangers and "is he willing to come off a huge number to play where he wants?"

We'll know in 24 hours or so.

Don't want to go more than 5 years and 5.7 for shat. Let him go elsewhere if he wants more than that which he probably will.

Really wish we could trade for trouba. Before everyone kills me my thought since we are 2 years away imo of really competing for a cup is trading Mcd for trouba and a high draft pick. So a 28 year old mcd for a 23 yr old trouba gets us our#1 RD we need and 5 yrs of age. Also in 2 years mcd is gonna be looking for something 7 mill plus. The other thing that scares me with McD is the concussion history. If we did this we'd have Skjei and trouba 1 pair, graves and smith 2 pair and until he can get rid of staal staal and deangelo or zobretsky for 3rd pair. Also we have day coming in another year or so who is looking good on the left side. So what do you guys think?

So our window to win a Cup is when Hank is 37? That makes no sense.

Our window is still now but Gorton has done a nice job of trying to get younger along the way.

The play is Shat for under 6m and no more than 5 years. Buffalo and NJ are going to offer him 7/50 so we will see what he wants

The Rangers are probably going to have to get close to 6.5 if it gets done with him. I still can't see him going to a NJ team 3-4y away over his favorite team who's pretty close if he joins, but they have to at least get over 6m.

5:30PM: Bob McKenzie said that Shattenkirk is mulling over offers from four teams, the Devils, Tampa Bay, Arizona and Colorado and that he is mulling over his options. (TSN)

5:03PM: Larry Brooks writes that Shattenkirk won't be signing with the Rangers and that many believe he has an offer $49 million coming to him from another team. (NY Post)
