Pitching matchup on record and ERA is close for both starters. Here's hoping we don't see a good game from Sevy tossed into the shitter.
If I don't see judge starting in rf today after 2 games as dh and complete off day yesterday I'm going to start worrying something might be wrong with him. Also, makes no sense to bring up frazier who will play every day if one of the starting outfielders isn't battling something. Really would like to see frazier staying up and playing every day, andujar up here playing every day at third and bringing this kid ford up from triple A to play first. The corresponding moves would be dfaing the useless carter (again) and refsnyder and making headley the utility infielder or cutting his useless ass also. As for Betances he has sucked the last few times out but with chapman not looking healthy the yanks need for him to get his act together. I think our starters and offense are ok and the biggest need is a reliable middle inning 7th and 8th reliever that can be counted on.
Gardner -DH Judge -RF Sanchez -C Gregorious -SS Ellsbury -CF Headley -3B Carter -1B Wade -2B Frazier -LF
Very happy to see judge back out there. Think outfield alignment could stay like this with gardy and ells alternating as dh till hicks comes back. Wonder how long till they pull plug on headley for andujar and bring ford up to play first and get carter the fuck out of here.
Lineup is fine # 6 & 7 glaring exceptions at the dish and in the field. There might be a glimmer for Headley but absolutely none for Carter. Steinbrenner should be putting his foot in Cashams behind to find something better by ASB or seek new employment.
Big picture there's plenty to be excited about when it comes to the future of this club. I think the one big decision that will eventually come up is what prospects or players you will be willing to move for pitching. Unless there would be enough help in the free agent market in the coming years. When it comes to the now it's just completely frustrating the number of games the bullpen has blown since it was supposed to be the strong point of the club. They would be several games in front if they converted just half the games the bullpen has blown into wins.
^^^Mess, the other really bad thing is that the recent losing streak has also let Toronto, the O's and the Jays back into the picture.
The saving grace is none of those teams are really that good and a healthy Yankee offense will continue to pound those awful pitching staffs.
My words for Seve are........" If you want a W today, let's hope you have good stuff to go nine innings."
...hate to be a buzz killer but I don't really look for the Yanx offense to sustain their early season production...opposing pitchers have already starting giving Judge "the Bonds treatment" and they'd simply rather walk him and take their chances with the batter behind him and unless there's protection behind him that others pitchers fear it's only going to get worse...Sanchez has already started tapering off and swinging at pitches out of the zone a lot...and as the injuries have mounted Judge and to a degree, Gregorius, are the only real consistent threats on offense. ...love Judge and he's exiting to watch every time at bat but I foresee a considerable decline in his numbers for the second half. The rest of the guys really need to start carrying their fair share of the load.
Agreed. Seve has left 6 games with the lead that the bullpen fucked up and should have at lest 3 or so more wins. As for prospects available I see Mateo as a definite as absolutely no place for him here and with didi and torres definite for up here could come down to 1 of castro or andujar on the move for more pitching prospects. My eye is on free agent Yu Darvish for the yankees to make a big play for after this season.
That's easier to do with the injured lineup. Get guys like Holliday and Castro back in there and Judge will see better pitches to hit. For the time being he just has to keep taking his walks and let others do the damage.
