For 1 year. Thats not the same. Philly purposely overpaid for 1 year because they had the space and didnt want to tie it up for multiple years.

And you could probably get Henderson Afflalo for the MLE, if we had it.

Afflalo ain't getting more than what we could technically offer (5m). Henderson might, but I doubt that as well.

If those players don't live up to there contracts this year then I will be questioning Olshey if he capible to handle the salary cap the smart way. I don't what to here about the owner that have deep pockets that don't work for me. What works me to always have flexibility so you can make moves to better your club. We got some contracts are tradable but if we do trade will that make us better. If it does it properly won't be the big impact you want.

My point is, they'd be ~1/3 of the price for Crabbe, and almost just as valuable

For one year. With most of their roster on rookie scale contracts, PHI needs a few ridiculous contracts just to get to the salary floor. Luxury tax, or even being over the cap, are not issues for them for them. They willingly, and knowingly overpaid Redick for one year to keep him from signing a multi-year deal elsewhere. They are looking to sign other vets for overpriced 1-year deals as well for this same reason.

They want to make the playoffs this year to appease their fans and their players and then will jettison Redick when their young guys start coming off their cheap rookie contracts and start getting those big extension.

Theres going to be a lot of players underpaid or without teams because so much money is being thrown around to few players.

Second tier FAs are already "settling" for the full non-tax payer MLE. Many of those guys will be underpaid compared to a lot of comparable talent that was signed last summer, but that's the reality of the current situation.

This is like a Black Friday sale and Neil is the only one without the coupon codes. He can only stand back and watch as all the other shoppers snap up the best deals.

Their original offer was between 18-20 mill for one season. That tells me Redick was getting offers of multi year starting at at least 18 mill. In order to give up that extra year or years, sounds like they bumped up to 23 million. Additionally, if you want to tank for 10 years straight, I don't think the Sixers are a great franchise to replicate. Also, hard to build a contender or chemistry when you have players making one year pit stops, unless they are ring chasing. You aren't ring chasing with rookies.

What do you think Neil would've gotten this off season if we didn't sign ET/Crabbe?

Pretty sure we still wouldn't have the cap space required to do anything of significance. Unless adding Taj Gibson for 14 mill is the 'bargain' move and 'best' deal. I'd rather have Crabbe and Turner than any single player that we could've gotten with our cap space - assuming players would've chosen us and teams with cap space didn't just increase their offer. Admittedly, I am not aware of every signing, but having negligible cap space for this off season doesn't do anything beneficial for us when contracts are still massive and we would've had very limited cap space in a perfect scenario.

Also, if we don't have ET/Crabbe, our guard rotation is suddenly a lot worse and we don't have a tertiary ball handler with size, which is something we knew we needed after golden state two years ago. Because we would've lost Crabbe for nothing. Not sure how we would have replaced Turner, but I'm pretty sure we had to move quickly.
