I think Ainge is going to end up sending him to Utah in a S&T for Hayward. Rumors are that the deal might expand to include Derrick Favors. That would really help Boston.
A realistic way for the Blazers to get involved is as a 3rd team in a trade involving Crowder. We'd get Crowder and give up something the team other than the Celtics wants, and the Celtics get cap space.
So Utah gets even more dicked....dont think theyd go for that. Who would we give utah...crabbe or turner?
I could see it actually. They are losing GH and they could look at it as an opportunity to rebuild around Gobert. Getting rid of Favors as well will not make them better obviously, but could give them some caproom next year and a better pick to start a rebuild. And with Favors' injury problems (there have been a lot), it might make sense to not have money anchored on him if they aren't competing. Think of it a as a mini - "trust the process" scenario.
I don't integrand how they could get Favors. They need to shed ~$3M and would instead get add $6M. Even if they gave up Bradley in that deal they'd still have to add Smart, Brown, or Rozier. I doubt they do that.
No thanks on Favors, he's not a winner/he's an underachiever; I'd much rather have what we've already got in our pf by committee.
If we hadn't just drafted Cracker Zach and CBO I would be ok with Favors. I actually really like him, aside from his inability to stay healthy.
Not sure which three contacts you're talking about, but I assume you mean Turner, Crabbe and Leonard? You'd give up all three of those guys, including any future trade value those contracts represent, for Crowder? Wow.
It's a risk for sure. I think he's unhappy with his situation in Utah though, so I'm assuming he could turn it around with a new team. A Nurkic/Favors front court would be stout. Like a dark Irish stout. I wouldn't pay a bunch for him though. No first round picks or anything.
It's an elevation thing. Get him to around sea level and he'll be a star. Plus all that salt can't be good for your soft tissue.
Would you mind explaining this in more detail for me? We had cap space to spend and after we spent it we signed CJ to extension. If we had rolled cap space forward and not used it - it would have been used by the extension on July 1 this year. We signed E Turner for $16.0M, matched Crabbe's contract at $17.0M, signed Leonard for $9.0M, Harkless for $9.0M, and finally Ezeli for $7.0M. They played games with the official order of the signings and re-signings to get it all to work. I remember that Ezeli was the last fit by a dollar! : ) If we'd "rolled it forward" we'd have eaten all of it with CJ's extension of $23.96M on July 1. We'd be over the cap by $10+M. No room to sign anyone just like today. Please explain.
Even being over the cap, if we weren't over the apron ($4m over the tax line) we'd be able to accept 150% of outgoing salary in trade instead of 125%. So (for example) the suggested Vonleh/Connaughton for Crowder deal that presently doesn't work under the CBA because of our tax position would be possible if we hadnt signed Turner and matched Crabbe last summer. That's the point of those lamenting those deals. Its not that we necessarily would have preserved "cap space", but flexibility that we presently don't have.
Blazers current cap figure 138.1 Blazers Cap figure minus Leonard, Crabbe and Turner's contracts 138.1 -18.5 - 17.1 - 9.9 = 92.6 NBA Salary Cap 99.1 99.1 - 92.6 = +6.5 million
