Man, it's not often that I find myself agreeing with Dwight Jaynes, but as far as I'm concerned he really nailed it in this column. Must be a blue moon or something. http://www.csnnw.com/portland-trail...rything-possible-avoid-utahs-hayward-calamity
I disagree with this article. GH was not the player he was last year when he got that contract and Utah didn't fool around with GH they told him they would match whatever he got so go out and get an offer sheet. Utah lost GH because of Brad Stevens not because of anything else, GH doesn't go to the Celtics if Stevens isn't the coach. Utah didn't do anything wrong, GH wanted to play for the only coach who gave him a scholarship and the first one to believe in him and the guy who got him into the NBA. You could also make an argument that since the east is so weak, GH is now the 2nd best wing the in east while he wouldn't' be in the top 6 in the west and you could argue he wouldn't even be a top 20 player in the west while he is a top 10 in the east.
This can only mean Dwight's job is on the line....brown lipstick doesn't look good on anyone...he had to get into character for this article
He took a stab at Utah for losing Hayward.....not like we've ever lost an allstar with nothing in return before
I have a hard time reading this article without his sneer and whiney voice.....if I read it and hear Morgan Freeman's voice, it's a better article
I personally believe that Hayward was gone regardless. If Brad Stevens wasn't at Boston then Gordon's wife just would have convinced him to go to sunny Miami instead.
I am not so sure about that. Happy wife -happy life, and the wife did not like Utah. She did like Miami though. I agree Utah did nothing wrong, accept maybe not kiss his ass a little more a couple of years ago....
CJ made $3M or so last year. Even if he signed before ET, that $3M he made in '16-'17 would've still applied to the summer of 2016. If we signed Nurk to an extension right now, his salary beginning in 2018 wouldn't apply to this summer.
By taking the "we'll match whatever offer you get" route instead of giving him a five year extension, they were forced to match a contract that gave Hayward a four year deal with a final year option. That meant that they only had him locked into a deal for three years instead of five and ended up losing him two years early, before they could complete their rebuild.
I agree 100% with Jaynes on this one. We could have told CJ to get an offer this offseason and we would match it. Instead, we locked him up last year. It saved money the the cap explosion and extended the year he could potentially become an FA. You would have thought Utah learned their lesson after Milsap got away.
True story time. My girlfriends mom got asked on a date by him a couple years ago, she said fuck it and went. He proceeded to talk about himself a lot No shit short story
Where is all these reports where she disliked Utah so much? Also you only have to live in the city for half the year, really easy to move especially when you make that kind of money.
I think players who've got kids are more concerned with moving than players who just have trophy wives..it's hard to uproot a family ....easy to talk a wife into shopping for new shit and living in a new house
