Re: When Stats Don't Tell the Entire Story.. This topic is for players who have better/worse stats than how they actually play.Players who play beyond the stats:-Tayshaun Prince-Tim DuncanPlayers who's stats are bigger than their actual game:-Steve Francis-Mike BibbyThis is hard to explain, I hope you understand what I'm trying to define...
Re: When Stats Don't Tell the Entire Story.. Yay another list thread. Maybe I'll say something controversial to get some discussion going?!?!?! OOOOOH.Kobe Bryant's stats do not show exactly how good he is. The difficulty of 90% of the shots he makes and takes are absolutely ridiculous. Give the guy a good point guard who knows how many points this guy can average given a guy who can create more for Kobe so Kobe doesn't have to create as much for himself as he actually does.
Re: When Stats Don't Tell the Entire Story.. Shaq would be a perfect example of this situation. His numbers are dropping (up until Wade went down anyways) every season and yet it is because of the double and triple team coverage he still receives that allows Wade and others to get into the paint so easily.

I agree.I agree with alot of what you guys have said so far...I think Wade plays even beyond his stats, if that's even possible. He puts up some nice numbers, but he is so clutch and such a good playmaker down the strech.
Re: When Stats Don't Tell the Entire Story.. The question is how you define playing beyond their stats. An example is Shane Battier. A quick look at his stats says that he's a pretty good player, but a good statistician will tell you that he's a top 50 player in the league. Thus I don't think players ever outperform their stats, they just outperform the stats that are available to the masses.

Kobe takes some wild shots in game and makes a majority of them.
Re: When Stats Don't Tell the Entire Story.. iono about mike bibby, I like him as a player. are Iggys stats bigger den his game?
Re: When Stats Don't Tell the Entire Story.. Varejao's game is better than his stats. What a hustler.Zach Randolph's stats are better than his game.
Re: When Stats Don't Tell the Entire Story.. I know exactly what you are talking about.I personal think Rip Hamilton, and Chauncy Billups both play past the stats. I see Rip have huge impacts on trips down the court all time, and he doesn't catch an assist, rebound, or point... Nothing.Chauncy is also "Mr. Big Shot" that alone should let you know of his impact. I also think Steve Blake is one of these players, along with Bruce Bowen.

Re: When Stats Don't Tell the Entire Story.. I think a person whos stats make him look better is Ben Gordon. Everytime I watch him play, he is selfish, and is just a chucker. He is one dimensional, and even though he scores alot, thats all he can do. And thanks for mentioning Tim Duncan. Leadership, fundamentals, and heart isnt something that you can put on a statsheet.

Re: When Stats Don't Tell the Entire Story.. All players play beyond their stats. Here's why:All shot blockers play beyond their stats because of how many shots they alter. All shooters play beyond their stats by how much they draw the defense out of the lane for easy shots for teammates. All scorers play beyond their stats by always keeping the defense guessing but never knowing. All defenders play beyond their stats by forcing bad posistion and bad shots. All hustle players play beyond their stats by creating extra possessions for their teamsAll players skills are going to have ways of playing beyond their stats based on their strenghts and skills.
