I was listening to ripcity drive or whatever the radio show is called this morning on 620. They were reporting "breaking news" that an international group is trying to bring both baseball and football to Portland. Jay Allen (tired of this guy lol) was saying that he has heard they already have a couple of sites in mind of where they want to build TWO separate stadiums.

This would be awesome. I mean we have talked about it on this forum for years, and irl decades so theres no reason to get any hopes up.

Portland would be an awesome NFL city. Would you guys abandon your favorite team to root for the local one?

Idk man. All I ever hear people talk about is how we arent a NFL or MLB city. I disagree. I would buy NFL season tickets immediately.

I wouldn't drop the raiders as my team (vegas is my 2nd favorite city anyways). But i would root for them as my 2nd team.

Mlb i would only go to a couple games in the summer.

Everyone around here seems to want to shoot low and want a NHL team. FUCK THAT. Hockey is the worst. Even worse than soccer.

I would root for the Portland MLB and NFL teams over the Raiders and the Mariners, yes. I barely pay attention to the Mariners and watch only a handful of Raiders games each year right now anyway.

I'll see it when I believe it, I guess.

If some how NFL was brought to Portland I would definately root for my home team to win.

MLB well I dont really watch alot of baseball but Id root for them too.

really? anytime I talk to people about the nfl in Portland they think it would do great. I agree it would do it great, the ducks have great support and the beavs have pretty good support.

I don't like hockey that much but I would be happy with a team here, it wouldn't hurt anything. Maybe if the NHL came and was successful it would help bring another sport.

I know everyone is saying believe it when they see it, but there seems to be an actual group of billionaires who want to bring two teams here. They are oil guys if i remember correctly what I heard

The NFL will never come to Portland. The Seahawks will block it as the NFL considers Portland their home territory.

A baseball team in Portland is an iffy situation at best because of how the last AAA team did attendance-wise. It was dismal. Plus I doubt there are 30-40k people that would show up to 80+ home dates a year.

An NHL team, however, would kill in Portland.

Announcements like that are usually made by firms seeking publicity, and nothing more.
That may be true, but this twas the radio guys reporting what they have been hearing the past couple days. It wasn't an official announcement from the group themselves.

Yes, and I'll put it to you in two simple questions.

Are the best players in the world playing in the NHL?

Are the best players in the world playing in the MLS?

I rest my case.
I hear you but idk man. Soccer is just a way more popular sport. Maybe it is just the people i roll with, but the people i'm freinds with in seattle go fucking nuts for the Sounders and travel around the US to watch their games.

I have known like 3 people into Winterhawks games and Ive live in Portland my entire life.

I know a lot of people ape shit over the Timbers too.

I hate soccer and hockey so i'm not trying to be biased.

I think the MLS based on nothing factual, just life experience, is more popular than NHL.

I've always been interested in getting into the NHL, but when the closest team is in San Jose or Canada I just couldn't be arsed to care. I've already tried MLS and know I don't like soccer.

My team is the Philadelphia Eagles. I would gladly switch to my hometown Squad.
I am a dolphins fan, and I dont think I could switch another team to be my #1, despite the disappointments for the last 10 or so years.

Build a bonfire, build a bonfire, Put Seattle on the top, Put Vancouver in the middle, And we'll burn the f*cking lot...
that is def one my fav chants in the army

The Seahawks can't block it alone, it would be up to a vote of the owners. It all depends on whether the other owners believed that Portland could support a team and it would make the NFL richer. The Seahawks can't, in any credible way, claim that a city in another state is "their territory." It would be like the Cardinals trying to block the Raiders from moving to Las Vegas, because that's currently "their territory" as the closest team.

Well, minor league attendance #'s don't reflect shit, but...

You do realize there are websites that you can look at that show attendance #'s, right? Because more than half of MLB teams don't even average 30K a night, so why should we hold Portland to that unrealistic standard?

There are teams that are division leaders (Cleveland & Milwaukee) who don't even average 25K.
Seattle doesn't, San Diego doesn't. Houston, one of the best teams in baseball this year, barely averages 30K a night.

Back to Cleveland, last year the Indians won 94 games and their average attendance was 19K.

30-40K is not some magical barometer that we need to meet.

I think the story got a bit garbled. An international group is indeed picking out two sites in Portland, but it's North Korea and it's targets for the ICBMs.

Been nice knowing y'all.

Nfl is... Not going to happen for obvious reasons. But I'd definitely support a Portland mlb team. As long as they have a cool name.
