'Unhinged' anti-Trumpers are Russian to conclusions | Mulshine

But it's the thought that counts, at least to the left. A consortium of three liberal advocacy groups filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission charging the Trump campaign "violated the ban on knowingly soliciting a contribution from a foreign national by arranging and attending a meeting to request and accept what he understood to be a valuable in-kind contribution to his father's presidential campaign in the form of opposition research on Hillary Clinton from the Russian government."

This is the meme going around in liberal circles. But it is obvious nonsense.

The right to gather information is protected by the First Amendment, regardless of who provides that information. UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh, who is a leading expert on the First Amendment, made that point in his Volokh Conspiracy blog on the Washington Post website:

"If the Hillary Clinton campaign had reason to think that, say, the British government had 'very high level and sensitive information' showing serious misbehavior by Trump, I think it would have had every right to get that information and see if it should be put before the American people as evidence that Trump shouldn't be elected," he wrote. "Limiting candidates' ability to expose their opponents' misbehavior would violate the First Amendment."

    ...

Volokh went on to note that the statute in question applies not to foreign governments but to all foreigners. Under the interpretation the anti-Trumpers seek, no member of a campaign could seek information from any foreign national, Russian, British, Canadian or Fijian.

Now, that's unhinged. Yet I have had conversations with several of my otherwise sane friends anti-Trumper friends in which they insist that criminal charges and possibly impeachment are just around the corner.

In reality, this is just the latest in a series of non-scandal scandals concerning the Trump administration.

It's amazing that you don't understand how editorial and opinion pages work.

It's amazing how wrong you are when you talk about what I understand and don't.

Then why did you post this?

It's clear you don't understand what an opinion page is.

It's amazing you don't know how liberals think.

Want proof that they can't be trusted? Find any article about Ann Coulter vs Delta Airlines that allows public comments.

I know she's the devil to liberals but they're taking Delta's side. They aren't just happy it happened to her but they actively support a motherfukin airline!

    That's crazy

I just tried to figure out what you're talking about.

I have no problem with Coulton ripping on Delta. What's fucked up is publicly insulting and posting the picture of the person Delta put in her seat.

Ann Coulter isn't a nice person. I just quoted you like that cuz I didn't want to start a new thread about her.

Right, but if Delta screws you over I'll laugh cuz it is you but still condemn Delta.

How hilarious would it have been if they gave her seat to HCP?

Edit... he'd have smiled for her pics

I'm smart enough to fall and suddenly throw my back out when Delta removes me from my seat.

(and hopefully smart enough to remove this post if that actually ever happens.)

that makes no sense....I'm not the guy on stage with the microphone you know.....adults see a childish temperament and scold the child....in this case...yeah, I'm more of an adult than Trump will ever be....said he wasn't very mature when he talked about all that celebrity pussy privilege....he was 57 when that happened...y'might not agree with my views, but I'm not impressed with the character of a man who has such an important role in the world....you can idolize him all you want. Respect is earned....I'm well respected and treat people with dignity ....Trump is disrespectful....that is his karma

Most people who don't trust Trump are not unhinged.......let's just get over that segregation of people who question the guy. Most concert goers don't get up onstage and try to dance with the rock star either but those are the folks who make the news reel...Trump however doesn't trust most people...he's on record saying that.

It's clear whenever you use a sentence with "you" or "Denny Crane" in it, it's either an insult, or you are confused or trolling.

I understand what an opinion page is.

NJ.com is not a conservative source of opinion or news.

It's clear the news organizations are blurring opinion and news. Opinion is their news.
