Nearly two weeks after Oregon suspended Darren Carrington following his arrest on a misdemeanor charge of DUII, coach Willie Taggart said in a statement Friday that the star senior receiver is "no longer a member of our program." "I have visited with Darren Carrington and informed him that he is no longer a member of our program," Taggart said in a news release sent by the university. "We will always consider Darren a Duck and support him in any way we can. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors." Carrington was Oregon's most established receiver and averaged 17.1 yards per catch for his career. With his NFL draft hopes unclear following his junior season where he caught 43 passes for a team-high 606 yards and five touchdowns, he elected to return to UO. He was expected to be a big-play target for UO quarterback Justin Herbert in the fall. He has caught 112 career passes for 1,919 yards and 15 touchdowns. Carrington, 22, was arrested at 3:15 a.m. July 1 after allegedly colliding with a pole in the drive-through at a McDonald's at 659 E. Broadway near downtown Eugene, according to Eugene police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin.
