Whether I like, agree with, or respect an individual does not change the fact that as a humanist I do not want to see anyone suffer. I wish Senator McCain a full and speedy recovery or, if that is not possible, ease at the end. I also hope, since he is a Senator, that he reflects on the fact that many do not have the health care he does and that he was prepared to take away health care from millions of Americans. That he at least does not have to worry about bankrupting his family, or becoming homeless, due to medical bills. And that we all deserve the same should we face such a catastrophe. Also that anyone can get sick. It is not a matter of being "irresponsible" or "making bad choices".
