True. They could have also comfortably traded for Jimmy Butler, offering Irving. The timing is bad because there don't seem to be any superstarts on the market.

Depends on the specific day. I believe Griffin was fired June 19th. That's what I recall reading recently in an article about all this.

So, let's say that the Cavs are able to sign Rose to a one year deal, as discussed here: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...-cleveland-cavaliers-meets-los-angeles-lakers

Let's also say that they're able to move Kyrie and Frye to the Knicks in exchange for Carmelo.

Is a roster with James, Carmelo, Love, Rose and Shumpert/Smith better able to contend with the Warriors? Is it better than last year's roster? Are James, Melo and Love too similar for the lineup to work, or does it matter in today's "positionless" theory of the NBA?

It's significantly worse, IMO. Derrick Rose is a well below average player at this point, despite his superficially impressive PPG, and Anthony is probably average or so, maybe slightly above average at best. Breaking a star down into two lesser players (neither of whom improves the defense and neither of whom can shoot like Irving) makes them much less able to compete with Golden State, as far as I'm concerned.

Makes me wonder if Griffin leaked Kyrie's demands...

Pretty much my thoughts as well. So, the East gets even weaker as the NBA tilts farther and farther to the West.

I think it was Tupac who said (sang); the west coast is the best coast!

I don't expect Cleveland to trade Irving straight up for Anthony though. The best trade suggestion I've seen is a three-way between Cleveland, New York and Phoenix and Cleveland comes away with Bledsoe, Anthony and a New York first-rounder. That's more reasonable--I still think Cleveland would be worse, but maybe not significantly so.

I'm more from the Beach Boys era:

And the girls all get so tanned."

Sorry. Daydreaming. What was this discussion about again?

Yeah, the one I saw had them giving up Irving and Love and getting Bledsoe and Anthony. In my view, that's a pretty significant downgrade.

The irony of the East Coast domination of the media, West Coast domination of the NBA...

If they include Love, yeah, but I don't see why they'd need to do that. Irving by himself is more valuable than Bledsoe plus Anthony.

I agree, but there's the question of what the Suns get out of the deal. The rumor I saw was Love plus the rights to Frank Ntilikina. Other than Love, what do the Knicks or Cavs have to offer that would induce the Suns to part with Bledsoe?

Given the heavy dominance of the east coast in terms of population distribution in this country, having such a talent drift to the Western Conference is not a good recipe for the league to continue to draw enough viewers to succeed.

Wasn't it John Barry who went off on how it was a disaster for the league when Portland drafted Oden and Seattle drafted Durant? Or was that Screamin A Smith? Both?
