Should someone in the Military be allowed to buy and drink any alcholic beverage at the age of 18?It's been along time since I've thought about this, or even heard it being talked about. I believe it was in 83 or 84 when the drinking age in the US was changed to 21. Which made some controversy that if you are in the Military you should only be 18 to drink. Which was the age before it was switched to 21. I know never in my life time I will see the drinking age lowered back to 18. If any thing is changed, this is probably the closest thing. I have been reading alot about this today, for some reason it came to interest agian. There are good points on both sides. It seems the main point for having it is, if you fight for your country, you should be able to drink. I am somewhat in favor of this. Not becaues I drink though. The only thing that holds me back from a full yes on this situation is I think it would increase the distribution of alcohol to minors. I just think some people arnt responsible enough with alcohol. If not 18, 19 or 20
I don't think it should be that you can only drink if you're in the military at 18, I think 18 year olds should be able to drink across the board. It's stupid that you're allowed to die for your country but not have a beer at eighteen.

I honestly think that the legal age to buy alcohol should be 21, but there should be no laws against consumming alcohol. if your parents want to buy you alcohol when your 15, it should be a family matter not a legal one. I think the liquor laws in this country are absolultly retarded.
Sorry, it's an old thread I know but I was thinking about the subject and thought I'd see if there was already a thread. It's crazy that the drinking age is not 18 in the US. Why should an 18 year old not be able to have a drink?

I think they should lower the drinking age. It well help people develop their tolerance at a younger age, so that when they get older they will know their limit and be able to handle alcohol better. Many other countries have a much lower drinking age, and don't have half the drinking problem that the United States does.

It's called I.T or something. They have a bar on the base he trains at. Sometimes they get off and have free time. He told me that when they go to the bar those guys dont id. He bought and consumed alcoholic drinks. He's 19
It's all about the human body. They believe you should get 21 years to build up your liver before you destroy it, not just 18.

I think the age is fine. I believe you'd have more of a case if the draft for the military was still in effect...but it's hard to make a case when you "Choose" to go over and die for your country.

You finish school at 18, it is when you start to become an adult.

I am asking how science supports your statement.

Obviously drinking less at a time helps a lot. So if you drank 1 beer then waited awhile it'd be healthier than like drinking a 6 pack.

No sh*t.Most people in other countries don't binge like we do... not to the same extent. They have better control, because they start drinking earlier.
