1 - Most of the time, trans people do hide their identified gender for years or decades out of fear of reprisal from ignorant assholes. Nobody knows at this point, but the trans person doesn't have their treatment

2 - Because people have legislated against trans people for decades, it's actually difficult to gain access to the very cheap treatment without the right insurance. Doctors act as gatekeepers, forcing trans folks to act and do certain things in very specific (sometimes humiliating) ways before we can gain access to the treatment (this is getting better in the last decade). Trans women used to have to dress up in dresses in public; if your case worker saw you wearing pants ever, they'd say you were faking it and yank your access to your treatment.

3 - Because we often don't look like our identified gender, trans people can sometimes get treated like cold dog shit. There's also the risk of getting murdered because you are trans (especially for trans women of color). Also, "trans panic" is still a legal defense in many states, meaning your murderer could get off scot free anyway.

4 - Because of all that fighting we've had to do, and the risk we put ourselves at to express our identity, we are proud, so we don't bother hiding it for the benefit of a queasy public. It's a big deal because it's a battle most people don't have to fight.

If I was starting a business, I would hire based on skill and talent. Not on medical conditions or other perceived flaws that you might think exist.

    Can they do the job?

Can they do the job well?

Would they fit in with the team?

But hey, I'm sure you would have been totally okay with turning away black pilots back in WWII because of the bullshit idea that they weren't as good as white pilots. Gotta weed out the inferior, right???

I would give you more credit, Sly. From a combat veterans point of view, I believe that he is ,more than entitled to his opinion.

I also concur that the role of fighting forces is to overpower your enemy. Any allowance of lessening of standards of that fighting force, is unacceptable.

Even with the highest standards met, these kids live in a highly stressful environment. Even the most well adjusted, physically fit soldier can break, so why does it even become a question when wanting to allow someone, who already has issues, to be allowed to place others in harms way.

I attended the indoor World Championships fpr track and field in Portland last year. My wife and I were amazed at how much faster the men looked than the women in the running events. It was crazy noticeable.

I'd like to put the burden of proof on some military experts here to tell me exactly what it is about being trans that puts others in harms way. Because I'm seeing "oh it costs money" and "oh they're out of combat readiness for x weeks because of surgeries", but then it morphed into this "they'll get other soldiers killed"...

I want this explained to me.

Sports are entertainment. If there is a market for a women's league, then a women's league will exist. Plain and simple.

Most of the players in the MLS aren't good enough on an open playing field in the premier leagues of Europe. Why did we need to create a "special league" in the US instead of watching the best players in the world?

I was going to use that angle but then I realized most folks here would say the MLS should go away because they hate communist futbol.

There are lower leagues in Europe, though.

I'm sure there are people who feel that way, and yet it's extremely popular here. So are the Thorns. There's definitely people who don't care about soccer, and that's their prerogative, but there's a market for it.

There was a time when women were thought to be inferior to men. Now I work in an office surrounded by brilliant women.

I guess you never bought into "not judging a book by its cover," eh?

So the Democrats have selected the military to be the organization that makes up for the ills of society where the trans folks are concerned. It that what I should take here?

You need not be a rude ass, just because you don't want to understand the question or don't want to answer. It sort of reminds me of banning PapaG.

Okay, sense you put it to me, I will answer as honestly and bluntly as I can. Combat is tough enough. I do not want to trust my life to someone who is an emotional basket case. God bless you and provide you comfort if you have suffered with this.

Not just the military! *turns flashlight on, puts it under chin*

It turns out government insurance in general will pay for transitions!

    *makes spooky fingers*

Explain to me how being trans makes one an emotional basket case.
