Sometimes old ideas are the best ideas. I'm sure you'd agree with that.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Most liberals would prefer to take insurance companies out of the picture altogether and just have government pay health expenses directly. While the right has made "Obamacare" the preeminent cause to attack, this health care plan is actually the conservative plan, circa 1993. It's what the Republican Congress countered "Clintoncare" with and it came directly out of a right-wing think tank, the Heritage Foundation. That's why Mitt Romney took it and implemented it in Massachusetts--because, at the time, it was considered a right-wing, market-based solution. He never dreamed that it would eventually be used as an example of how left-wing he was.

Obamacare, when it was implemented, was basically a partial step towards what liberals actually wanted, not the end point. Starting the process towards persuading the American people that access to health care is an necessary thing for government to assure everyone was important, even if the bill that was passed was imperfect. So that's why Democrats and liberals tend to support it, while not necessarily liking insurance companies.

On the path to eventual single-payer, yes. It's a good dance to be a part of.

    1. Everyone should be responsible for personally paying health care bills and probably finding your provider. If you get help some where, great.
2 The system of Employers tax free reimbursement for health care expenses is a good system.
3 Providers should not be involved with getting paid by anyone other than the patient, no cost shifting to deep pockets like insurance companies and self insured corporations.
    4. Small companies should be enabled to join together Nationwide to become self insured to reduce the average cost of their provide healthcare expense reimbursement.
    5. Leave the Insurance companies free to market what they will, to those that can and will buy the product they offer.
    6. The Military takes care of it's people as they do, hopefully as it is suppose to work by current law.
    7. Either the Federal Government or the States, perhaps both, should offer Government insurance to people that do not qualify or cannot participate in the above six possibilities.
One or more Government pools that people can buy coverage through for the Government defined coverage. An insurance company like Blue Cross could manage this for any given state or the federal government. People can leave this program at the end of any period they have paid. They should be free to join at the first of the year or went status in one of the above six is terminated.
The coverage in this pool would probably be minimal to keep the costs within reason and encourage migration to the above six.

    8. Protection from home confiscation such as the homestead protection laws should be returned.
9.HSA and Catastrophic insurance would be better choice for many people than medical insurance. Should be in the above options.

If I'm a doctor under single payer, I want to get paid over and over again. For procedures needed or not.

Or I'd quit and become a lawyer so I could make the same money as I did before.

I think that says more about you than about single payer.

And it would be a better fit.

It's not clear to me why doctors (other than you) would be more inclined to cheat the government than they currently are to cheat the insurance companies?

Are you serious? The insurance companies make the doctors jump through hoops to get paid for anything. Who's gonna be keeping track of every doctor in the country ordering only procedures that are necessary?

Yeah, I'm sure nobody will do anything shady.

Good news, no one is better than the government for making people jump through hoops to get things done. That's generally what people hate about the government, but it'll be a feature in this case.

That will be a disaster. I've had different plans at work over the years. The jump through hoops shit just makes people say fuck it and ignore their health issues.

    Knee hurts?

Go see your primary care doctor, get your blood pressure checked and he'll put in for a referral. Maybe take an xray if you're lucky.

After what they've done to make the system we had worse single payer may look good.

To me it is more like everyone skipped high school and college and we all get our GED.

Single payer isn't as good as what I used to get through work. I had my gall bladder removed in 2009, never had to pay much. It was so small an amount I don't remember what it was.

I'd be curious to see what I would pay now and I pay for the best plan my company offers.

It's confusing. Actually ...It's boring. I would rather have The Blazers make a common sense trade deal. That's exciting!
