why did we trade Crabbe? Obviously to get out of playing so much tax, it will not be much different with Nurk, we may have to "make room" but PA is not going to go nuts here, some here need to get real
Blazers should just follow Trump's example and refuse to release their taxes. Then no one will know that they're over the salary cap.
Nurk will be paid either this year or next year but if he stays healthy there no reason that Olshey or Paul will not hesitate either match or directly sign Nurk. The only big question right now is can he stay healthy for a full year and maybe that the reason they haven't extend him yet.
Do you really believe what you're saying? Crabbe was a barely above average bench player and Nurk was arguably the best center in the league during his stint on Portland. We'd only need to be over the tax for one year to if we max Nurk (assuming we can trade aminu/harkless and won't be able to trade Leonard and Turner)
Some billionaires just got fucking lucky because they worked for a company that became huge and cashed in their stocks. I can think of two of them who own NBA teams.
It won't be easy to get a max deal next season. The cap will not rise by more than a few million and there won't be many teams with enough cap to sign a $25M a year player. I am not sure Nurkic will get a max offer from anybody. Could be similar to Noel now where he was sure he would get a max but nobody offered him that.
Dallas will have $34M in cap space. Chicago will have $54M in cap space. Atlanta will have $32M in cap space. Philly will have $61M in cap space. F*ck the L*kers will have $48M in cap space. There's 5 teams who might go after Nurk at MAX contract level. Nothing is a "sure thing" - Nurk has to show he's worth that kind of deal. Staying on the court AND similar production to last year with the Blazers would do it. If that is the case, I find it far-fetched that the Blazers would let him walk or sign and trade him.
Lakers will not go after Nurkic. They will go after Paul George and probably get him, which won't leage them with enough space to get another players at a max deal unless it's LeBron and they clear up space. Philadelphia won't go after Nurkic when they will have to give Embiid a max deal on their end, and in the very same offseason too. That leaves Dallas, Bulls and Hawks. Mavs will only have this much cap space if they don't resign Noel to a hefty deal, which they most likely will. Also, if they do that, no need for Nurk again. So it leaves Bulls and Hawks. Yes, they could offer Nurkic a lot but there will also be plenty of other players entering free agency who might get the nod. Bulls will also have to resign LaVine which will eat into the space. A lot of these max deal assumptions are based on 2016-17 numbers where a lot of teams offered plenty of money to average players because they suddenly got $24M to spend and more than half the league had a max deal to offer either last year or this year. It won't be the case again, only 2 or 3 teams are left from that pot. And as you say, even if he gets offered that, we will match. We can make room - letting Aminu, Davis go and trading Harkless or Leonard gets us $25M extra.
Just as we can maneuver to get cap space, so can most of the other teams. If not all of them. We saw teams make offers this summer before they even had the cap space to sign the player. We also see potential deals where a 3rd team with cap space makes trades possible.
How Nurk plays this season will determine whether teams see him as a franchise-level talent worth a max contract and worth the effort it would take to clear space to go after him. I think both the Blazers and Nurk are aware of that and will act in their best interests as the season goes along.
I just assume that from this point on....Nurk's a Blazer...retires here with multiple championships and gets his jersey retired one day.....now if we want to talk about centers that we want to trade....I can think of one.....
Some will believe that all these players are alike. That they will only think of themselves. We have at least 3 that put the team first and low and behold, they are our best 3. Nurkic won't sign SHIT anywhere else. Not even an offer sheet. He will only sign with us. Mark. My. Words.
If Portland offers a max, yeah. If Portland offered less than the max, I don't think he'll negotiate exclusively with Portland.
Most Billionaires inherit thier money. They dont care, or didnt care.... ITs not black and white like that.
