Just was thinking about this recently. Is Kwame Officially a huge bust? One of the biggest ever?He was the no. 1 overall pick in the draft, straight outta HS. He has had many off the court incidents (Rape, Assault) ETC. and then of course his feud with Gilbert Arenas. His Stats:First Year - 4.5 ppg, 3.5 rpgCareer - 7.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg
He definitely has been a bust, but I dont think he is one of the biggest ever. He was picked too high in the first place by MJ straight out of high school, and his expectations immediatley became too high. I thought that he would have developed in to a better player by now, and he is definitely a bust, but their have been others that have been worse.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Name some man, I don't know how it can get much worse.</div>Kwame's up there but in his defense Jordan was an idiot for picking him. Then Jordan was getting upset when Kwame wasn't instantly developing into the next Kevin Garnett. I remember reading a sports illustrated article where Jordan would single him out in practices and ridicule him in front of everyone. I don't think it's all Kwame's fault, he wasn't in the best situation in Washington. There have been some huge busts though...Darius MilesMichael OlowkandiShawn BradleyNervous PervisYinka DareLaRue MartinRick RobeyNicoloz TskitishviliRoy TarpleyMarcus Fizer
I think it's safe to say Kwame Brown has been a draft bust as of right now, it's his 6th season in the league and he hasn't made any remarkable improvements since he entered the league back in 2001. Kwame has established himself as a great low post defender, but not much more. He seemed to get it together in 2004 putting up great numbers, but then the next season his numbers dropped miserably.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DaBridge @ Mar 15 2007, 12:42 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Name some man, I don't know how it can get much worse. :no1:</div>Steve StipanovicDanny FerryRick RobeyMichael OlowokandiEd O’BannonSam BowieDennis HopsonKent BensonNicoloz TskitishviliLaRue MartinChris Washburn

The fact that he got picked over Tim Hardaway, Glen Rice, Sean Elliott, Shawn Kemp, Cliff Robinson, and Nick Anderson makes the pick even more horrible.
I wouldn't call Kwame Brown a massive bust, it was a terrible draft year where whoever was picked 1st would have been a dissapointment...besides, there was no big hype with Brown, I followed that draft closely... People make too big a deal over busts now days, back in the 50's/60's there were tons of big draft busts, in my opinion do to poor scouting, things are completely different now.
Jordan was the greates player, but he's the biggest idiot when it comes to drafting. Why the **** would you take an unproved 7 footer with small hands out of high school?

I never would've drafted the guy. He was a project center - with small hands. Put it together and what do you have? BUST! No that hard to figure out.
Sam bowie over jordan is still the biggest imo. But kwame is pretty bad, even though he is decent now
Hey, the man is a really good post defender, but as an offensive player - yes, he has been a "massive bust".

He was not labeled a project center then either, he was a guy people thought could come in and start immediatly. Because he was 6'11" 250 with a great body, good speed, athletic ability, looked like a future stud. Your looking at him post-draft, plain and simple. Christ, in 2001 people were telling Jordan he should consider picking Rodney White or Eddie Griffin #1, I don't blame the Wizards for picking Brown, he was the best prospect at that time, he didn't have the work ethic, didn't pan out...oh well.
When you think of draft busts Kwame Brown sure is up there. I was upset when we traded Caron Butler for him because I knew that his value was way better then Kwames at the time. I think he has gotten better, somewhat, but as a number 1 overall pick better doesn't cut it. I am not going to make an excuse that the reason his averages are so low is because of the pressure on him or because Kobe Bryant scores most of the points. The only person that can turn his game in the direction we thought it was going is Kwame himself.

It's hard to tell a lot of the time. But in my opinion he looked like a bust before the draft. But hey, I've been wrong before too.

The guy was unproven, just a nice package of potential who had small hands. It's very risky taking a high school player and even riskier taking one with small hands who hasn't proven anything yet.
