I fractured my heel like 2 weeks into 4th grade and got to stay home and play NBA Live 99 for like 5 months doing my school work at home. Best year as a kid ever.
Last A's game of the season. This was before they built Mount Davis, so bleacher fans could run down the steps to center field gate and try for autographs. A player came to the gate, I ran down, stepped in a hold that had no business being there and snapped my ankle. They strapped it up but I had no health insurance, fortunately small break, it was the sprain that took weeks. So there I was, having to be helped up the stairs. Other bleacher creatures kindly got autographs for me, even got me food, but nothing to be done when I needed to use restroom, I had to hobble all the way UP the stairs and all the way back down. Worse was getting to BART, a good 10-minute walk AND walking a mile home from BART station. Oh man did that fucking hurt.
25 years ago, I got hit by a car and it literally turned my foot backwards. Broke my ankle in 8 places. The doc who put the jigsaw back together is still my hero. All these years later, its still gets tender sometimes, but it's solid and strong. You should be fine. I am though amazed you were able to travel on such short notice.
