The Blazers "trade" isn't anything to get excited about. An undrafted player and a late 2nd rounder plus an anchor of a contract, plus they give up Swanigan?! That's a brilliant trade!

    1. Houston Rockets Receive: Carmelo Anthony

New York Knicks Receive: Maurice Harkless, Meyers Leonard, Caleb Swanigan

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: Ryan Anderson, Shawn Long, Cameron Oliver, 2020 top-five protected pick (from HOU)

So many of these proposed trades just seem like they were done by the folks at Clutchfans. "We really want to see Carmelo play for the Rockets so these other teams should do something stupid in order to make that happen." Until these nimrods, and Carmelo too, realize that there is no Rockets/Knicks/X Other Team trade out there that is going to make sense because they are all weighed down by Ryan Anderson's contract, nothing is going to happen.

Latest on Knicks' Carmelo Anthony trade rumors: Training camp holdout?

With the Kyrie Irving trade sweepstakes now over, all eyes will be on Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony.

As the countdown to the 2017-18 NBA season commences, Anthony's future hovers over the Knicks, interested parties and the entire sport. Here's the latest, per Marc Berman of the New York Post--including Anthony remaining steadfast in Houston as his desired destination and the first talk of a training camp holdout in September.

    On the Rockets:

According to widespread reports, Anthony has told the Knicks he is willing to waive his no-trade clause only for the Rockets, who feature his two buddies, Chris Paul and James Harden. Teams such as the Cavaliers, Pelicans and Thunder have expressed interest, and The Post has reported the Knicks have talked to Anthony about expanding his wish list, to no avail.

On training camp and potential holdout:

There's a chance Anthony will be forced to attend training camp, which starts Sept. 25 in Tarrytown. The Knicks have the leverage now, as their chief objective is developing their young players this season and making the playoffs is not the No. 1 priority. The Knicks have all their first-round draft picks going forward.

If Anthony holds out, it would cost him money, and the Knicks would carry on with their youth plan.

Watching an Anthony holdout--after Knicks fans rarely questioning his work ethic while in New York--would a strange end to a strange Knicks career.

Carmelo Anthony is going to have an awkward preseason

In a cruel bit of irony for Carmelo Anthony, the Rockets are making an appearance on the Knicks’ preseason schedule, visiting the Garden on Oct. 9.

The only deal that makes sense under the salary cap includes Rockets power forward Ryan Anderson as the centerpiece of a trade, with three years and $60 million left on his contract, but he is overpriced and plays the same position as Kristaps Porzingis. Hence, the Rockets and Knicks never got close to a deal and have failed to find another team to join in on a three-team package.

The Knicks could be better served waiting until the next important trade marker – Dec. 15 – when all the free agents who signed this summer are eligible to be moved.

There’s a chance Anthony will be forced to attend training camp, which starts Sept.

The Knicks’ new administration does not want to waive him now via the stretch provision, which would open up needless cap space for this summer. Anthony can opt out of his deal after this season. In one of his final acts, then-team president Phil Jackson entertained the notion of buying out Anthony but got rebuffed by owner James Dolan.

If Anthony, 33, returns and has a throwback season out of his prime after his intense offseason training, the Knicks could compete for a playoff spot, as long as untested French rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina can give them 25 competent minutes.

A lineup of Ntilikina, Tim Hardaway Jr., Anthony, Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez is an able starting five, with Courtney Lee as sixth man, Kyle O’Quinn and Joakim Noah as backup bigs, Michael Beasley behind Anthony at small forward and Ramon Sessions as Ntilikina’s mentor at the point.

The Knicks will play a five-game preseason slate, with the league shortening the exhibition season to allow for fewer back-to-back games. The club has three home games – vs. the Nets (the opener on Oct. 3), Houston and Washington. They will play two games on the road in Brooklyn (Oct. 8) and Washington (Oct. 6). Their season opener is Oct. 17 in Oklahoma City.

You'll have to probably come up with a new definition for "functional".

I really have a problem: I now get unreasonably irritated when members of the media publish CBA-related misinformation. However, I will resist the urge to inform the NY Post that free agents re-signed by their prior teams using bird-rights actually can't be moved until January 15th.

Yeah, its hilarious how they use us as a stand-in team for their horrendous trade scenarios. "Reputable" sports columnists do the same shit to get clicks. Its just a large market team in the headline (for clicks) and we are extras, used to fill out a page and make it look like a real article and not just clickbait horseshit (which it actually is).

Bumping this with actual Carmelo news.

QUICK!!! SOMEBODY GO POST THIS AT CLUTCHFANS!!

Report: Carmelo Anthony trade talks between Knicks, Rockets have stagnated

The Knicks and Rockets have been closely linked to a deal involving Carmelo Anthony all summer long. With Anthony having a no-trade clause in his contract, he can control his destination, and the only team he wants to play for is Houston. The Rockets and Knicks have so far struggled to get additional teams that can help make the deal work.

As a result, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN,
talks between Houston and New York have become "dormant" as of late despite the two sides re-igniting those talks recently. With no deal in sight, Anthony and the Knicks have accepted that they will be together once again at training camp.

"Carmelo Anthony right now, those talks have been fairly dormant between Houston and New York. The Rockets have tried to find third, fourth teams to help facilitate a deal with Carmelo Anthony. They haven't been able to do that. Both sides are prepared for the fact that Melo may have to go to camp."

Houston, in many ways, doesn't need Anthony if it wants to compete in the Western Conference. They made the conference semifinals last season with only James Harden and the Rockets used this summer to add Chris Paul next to him. Anthony would certainly help them, but they aren't in dire need of him. This gives them a lot of leverage in trade talks, but it sounds like it's on them to find a third or fourth team.

The Knicks, on the other hand, are once again stuck with a player that they don't seem to want around. Anthony has become disgruntled over the last few seasons with former president Phil Jackson getting involved in a very public feud with Anthony. The relationship feels beyond repair at this point, but with Anthony's insistence on playing in Houston the two sides are going to have to make it work for now.

    There's nothing happening.
