Three days after Donald Trump named his campaign foreign policy team in March 2016, the youngest of the new advisers sent an email to seven campaign officials with the subject line: “Meeting with Russian Leadership - Including Putin.”

The adviser, George Papadopoulos, offered to set up “a meeting between us and the Russian leadership to discuss US-Russia ties under President Trump,” telling them his Russian contacts welcomed the opportunity, according to internal campaign emails read to The Washington Post.

I'm sure he knew nothing about this, nor would he have condoned it. likely would have fired all of them.

    I found this pretty funny.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/22/us/politics/mitch-mcconnell-trump.html?mcubz=1

The relationship between President Trump and Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, has disintegrated to the point that they have not spoken to each other in weeks, and Mr. McConnell has privately expressed uncertainty that Mr. Trump will be able to salvage his administration after a series of summer crises.

    http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/m...miner: Breaking News - 08/23/17&utm_medium=em

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday disputed a report that he's no longer talking to President Trump, saying sources for that story are out of the loop.

"The President and I, and our teams, have been and continue to be in regular contact about our shared goals," McConnell said in a statement. "We are working together to develop tax reform and infrastructure legislation so we can grow the economy and create jobs; to prevent a government default; to fund the government so we can advance our priorities in the short and long terms; to pass the defense authorization and defense appropriations bills so we can support our troops and help implement an effective strategy against ISIL; to provide relief from Obamacare; and to continue our progress for our nation's veterans."

Why would that be funny? All the reported strife so far is private--until McConnell is ready to break with Trump publicly, of course he's going to deny reports that they're anything but the best of partners. And he's not going to break publicly with Trump as long as he thinks Trump's base is important to him electorally, which it still is.

Anonymous sources vs. the horse's mouth.

    NYTimes caught lying.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/24/trumps-stumbles-dont-automatically-benefit-democrats-commentary.html

Trump’s stumbles don’t automatically benefit Democrats

They watch as liberal commentators call for an end to the veneration of figures like Washington and Jefferson, just as Trump said they would and (have been doing for years), even as coastal elites insist that no one advocates such things. On Monday, Baltimore awoke to see a 200-year-old monument to Christopher Columbus destroyed by a vandal with a sledgehammer. They know that this is not some isolated event but an extension of the madness they've seen take hold of the country, even amid lectures about how connecting these dots is woefully unenlightened.

"The people asking these questions (over and over and over) are not racist," wrote Senator Ben Sasse. "Rather they're perplexed by the elite indifference to their fair questions." Liberals dismiss these sentiments at their peril. Despite a Republican president's unpopularity and the dysfunction of his party in Congress, Democrats have so far been unable to capitalize on the environment. Even by its own modest standards for success, the Democratic National Committee's fundraising has been bleak. On Thursday, Cook Political Report shifted the race for Senate in four Democrat-held states in the GOP's direction.

Attributing Donald Trump's wink and nod in the direction of white supremacy last week to strategic genius is simply deluded. That does not, however, suggest that Democrats are benefiting from Trump's recklessness. Liberals have given the public no assurances that they can govern from the center, or that they even see that as a desirable enterprise. And yet, Democrats still appear convinced they are the default beneficiaries when Trump falls on his face, all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding.

someone remind me, wasn't denny a non trump/republican supporter? Because it sure doesn't seem that way.

Almost every time (if not every time) anyone posts anything even remotely negative about Trump, Denny runs in with his keyboard in his hand bringing up how it's fake news or that Clinton did this, or that it's not what it appears.

Me thinks you doth protest too much.

Why didn't NYTimes just ask McConnell?

It's actually not funny, it's both sad and scary. Scary that you cannot trust the 4th estate to be legit anymore.

Any time I see something untrue, I post the truth. There's a difference.

When people post about Trump's wall, I post that I oppose it. Or his get tough on immigration policies. Or continuing the Afghan war. Or him calling Mueller's investigation a witch hunt. Or the right saying Mueller has some conflict of interest. Or his attack on judges.

There's an extensive list of these things.

Unfortunately, people want to focus on lies and untruths. I don't want any part of that.

They did; he wouldn't comment, as was noted in the article.

As I already gently pointed out to you, until McConnell plans to publicly break with Trump, he's going to deny reports that he's privately broken with Trump, for his own self-interest. You know this, I know this and everyone else knows this.

If he wouldn't comment, they didn't have a story.

Turns out they knew the truth and lied about it. They certainly didn't get their facts straight, and they certainly published the story to create negative PR.

I do not believe McConnell would flat out lie about him having calls all along with Trump or his staff working with the White House staff.

He's bashing the congress that has a 15% approval rating. Seems like smart politics to me.

Maybe you should read your own links:

"The only problem I have with Mitch McConnell is that, after hearing Repeal & Replace for 7 years, he failed! That should NEVER have happened!"

Plus, Trump wanted the debt ceiling funding to be added to the VA funding bill, so there'd be no issues getting it passed.

Seems like smart politics to me. Not particularly seen much so far.

I think there's tension there, sure. There's been tension with Ryan since the campaign as well.

Again, Trump ran against the republican establishment and won. Trump's complaints are the complaints of republican voters, too.
