I've watched the last few Hawks games and I love this guy. He has the longest arms and legs I've ever seen, blocks a ton of shots, rebounds like a PF, gets to the basket in a couple of steps with ease...He scores most of his points within 12 feet of the basket, a poor/streaky outside shooter....man, this guy just blows my f*cking mind whenever I watch him, probably the must unappeciated talent/player in the league right now. (with Iguodala). Speed, athletic ability, leaping, passing, driving, shotblocking, rebounding...If this guy weren't playing for the Hawks he'd be so much more popular around the league, if this guy played for the Knicks we'd never stop hearing about this guy. If he can work on his shooting he can in a few years easily average 25/10/4 with a bunch of blocks/steals.
I have always been a huge fan of his game. He makes everything look so easy. I really started to appreciate his game during the 2nd half of last season. Its like he all of a sudden hit a nerve and decided to go off on everybody. He has the perfect body size, he is super athletic which allows him to get rebounds, blocks, and easy dunks, and he is super fast as well...Especially for his size. Once he can get his shot to be more consistent, he is going to be an amazing player.
Josh Smith is simply a great player with a terrific future ahead of him and what I love most about him is his ability to block shots, he' can pretty much do that all day long, it's awsome!
His passing is excellent from the 3 spot, and like Iggy, Wade, Paul, Bron etc etc..hes going to be one of those players who gets 2 or 3 triple doubles a year.
I've always liked him too, but he has one MAJOR: problem. Actually, more than 1. His attitude and work ethic aren't very good. If he gets motivated he could be awesome. Also, work on his jumper.
hes been wokring hard lately though, asserting himself and tkaing the role of the star with JJ being out.
He is a really, really good all around player. He has a huge wing span, he is enormously athletic, he can penetrate with ease, block shots, get steals, defend, rebound....He can do almost everything, man...If he could get a consistent outside shot, he's an all star calibre player.
Josh is such a beast. I remember specifically the other night he beasted Gerald Green and blocked his dunk. Great athlete, great defensive shot blocker and stealer.
http://www.bballworld.us/forum/index.php?showtopic=25897 :happy0144: Anyway, I've liked this guy since he was in high school - there's something about his athletiscm that's just so amazing.Imagine if he'd gone to IU :shifty2:
Athletically and his shot blocking ability he is incredible. But he still needs to become a more consistent player, and needs to step up like Iggy has without Iverson. If the Hawks want to get to the playoffs in the near future, there will need to be a consistent 2nd scoring option next to JJ. Josh Smith has the talent to do that.
^If Josh Smith was given the same opportunity that Iggy was given, you would see him doing the same thing. When JJ went down earlier this year for a game or maybe 2, I remember Josh putting up some crazy numbers. Even though he still has alot of work to do on his jumpshot, he can still score the basketball. And we all know that he is a great shot blocker, and a good rebounder.

He hasn't been that yet. And unlike Iggy, he doesn't have the playmaking skills to help his team when he is not main option. I don't expect him to put up the 20/7/7 which iggy has done without AI, but I do expect him to be more consistent and dependable as a 2nd option.
Oh yes.. FINALLY! The guy can play, he can score, rebound, pass, block shots, alter shots, and he's so incredibley athletic! With Joe out, he's been our primary scorer and he's done a very good job at it, shooting a very high percentage and playing his game. He brings soo much energy whenever he's on the court and you know he's a highlight waiting to happen.I'm happy he's getting some recognition because him and Joe are both amazing players but surrounded by crap players.. I like your 25/10/4 statistical prediction BCB, but I think we need some better teammates on the Hawks or he needs to be traded - obviously we won't trade him though..IN MARCH: 21 ppg // 9.4 rpg // 2.4 apg // 3.3 bpg // 2.4 spg

Putting up 20 a game and getting over 9 boards. And he isnt a playmaking type player. He is a SF/PF type player for the Hawks. You cant expect him to be a passer...And I think that he has definitely set himself as the 2nd option for the Hawks. He is inconsistent at times, but he is still young. Iggy was the same way when AI was still in town. I agree that he needs to become more consistent, but it will come with time.

For a 6'9, 225 lb SF, he has fantastic vision, playmaking ability/passing. When Joe Johnson is playing thats the type of player he trys to be, he wants to get his teammates involved and he does so very well. On any given night he can get 8-9 assists, but that doesn't mean he'll consistantely get 8 assists a game but I can see him maybe get 4-5 a game in his primea game which is great for a forward his size.

He also had to deal with Webber being...well...Webber. I am not saying he should be a playmaker, but if he is not consistent scoring the ball as a 2nd option, he doesn't help much offensively. Sure, he has had an amazing month, but he did the EXACT same thing last year. Too little, too late.Don't get me wrong, the kid has tons of potential. But my one gripe on him is consistency and dependablity as a 2nd option. It is the one thing the Hawks really need, along with another player down low.
Yeah, I agree with you. He needs to become more consistent. He did the same thing last year....He didnt do that well before the All-Star break and then he turns it on afterwards and plays amazing. I think he is establishing himself as their 2nd scorer, but he brings so much more to the table than that. He can score 20 in a game, but he can also get you 10 boards alot of nights, 3 blocks, a couple steals....He is definitely their 2nd best player, and once he becomes more consistent. Watch out...

But, for the Hawks to win, he needs to consistently put up the 20PPG he is putting up now. Until he does that, all the other great stuff he does won;t translate into wins.
Well tonight against the Pacers he had 16 points (on 8-15 fgs) 11 rebounds 2 assists 4 blocks and 5 turnovers in 36 minutes in a 113-90 loss.
