I spent time in Texas, they get killer flash floods in that state now they have this hurricane to add on to that. I sympathize with those people, the areas where that storm is projected to hit is low lying territory. I hope those affected can find every way possible to get out of harms way!
...yup, they're forecast for 3 feet on rain in some places....the ensuing flooding will much more damage than the wind. ...meanwhile, we can look for a weeklong 15-20 cent increase in gas prices here in the Southeast.
I love when these Idiots stand outside during these Storms, one of these days they are going to get killed.
Just saw storm chaser and MSN photos, living conditions in those areas will be brutal for some time to come.
I just got the Weather Report from Sarasota, Florida where I used to live and it's not good. Michael be safe.
All that over state formation means is that we'll likely see more than usual rain. Typical Florida July & August. Took my dog for a walk this AM and about 3 blocks along she got ditzy, did a you turn and the thunder came crashing. They hear it before we do. We took a speed walk home just barely beating the rain. June through November can put people on edge as it should. If I thought a cane of any size was going to hit this area I'd grab the squeeze, the dog and haul buggy out of here. I have reliable insurance to cover losses.
Id have more empathy if Houston wasn't a sanctuary city. All those resources wasted protecting illegal aliens, that money could have been used to shore up infrastructure or stage supplies to deal with potential flooding.
^^^Tote, the thing that bothers me is why the mayor/governor did not make evacuation mandatory....I mean, I realize there are some people who really need help but geeez, these people as well as government officials watch The Weather Channel just like the rest of us, and they had 4-5 days notice of what was gonna happen....newsflash; 3 feet of rain coming, get the fuck out ! ...as Ron White says; "You can't fix stupid".
Yep, local officials called it a "rain event" . Reminds me of my old buddy Ray "Noggin Head in New Orleans. Any area along the Gulf Coast has got to have plans for evacuation when these things occur. Official word hell, if suspecting a major Caine here in St Pete myself, squeeze, and Beagle would be driving up 19 north.
...Yup, get in the car drive to where it's much safer inland, get a hotel room, and take it easy till the coast is clear to return home. Like Tote said, a lot of money is being wasted because a bunch of idiots decided to "ride it out"...the money would have been better served on the ones who really NEEDED assistance.
...^^^the people in the lower lying areas should have bee evacuated before the storm made landfall...when will these mayors and governors learn?
Cartoon character Grumpy Lady Maxine comes forward with a solution for economic messes in the US/UK/Canada/Australia & New Zealand with the following anaology. I bought a bird feeder. placed it on my back porch, filled it with seed, and what a feeder it was. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free food. Then the birds started building nests on patio board, the barbecue and above the table. Then came the shit that was everywhere. Some of the birds turned mean, dive bombing and pecking me though I had fed them from my own pocket. Other birds were boisterous and loud, squawking and screaming to be fed no matter what hour of the day. When reaching the point of not being able to sit on the back porch, I took the feeder down. After three days the birds had gone, I cleaned their mess, removed their nests. Again the yard was quiet and serene with no one demanding their "rights" to a free meal. Now let's see, our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, and education. Anyone born here is a natural citizen. Then the illegals came in tens of thousands and taxes were raised to provide the aforementioned services. Small apartments house 5 families, you wait hours to be seen by emergency room medical personnel. Your childs school rates below others because half the class can't speak English. Corn Flakes are in bi-lingual boxes, and you press one to communicate with your bank in English. People waving flags other than ours are squawking and screaming on the streets about their "rights" Just my opinion but maybe it's time for Uncle Sam to take down the bird feeder.
