I don't think you can say Cavs got a bad deal here. IT's contract is just a year shorter than Irving's.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I don't think Cleveland got a bad deal, but I think people are overstating it when they suggest that Cleveland killed Boston. Thomas is three years older and tiny--he's not just a "small guard," he's six inches shorter than a small guard like Lillard. Would you feel comfortable giving hm a 5 year deal worth ~$200M as he heads into his 30s, considering he's an outlier in terms of small size? I sure wouldn't. And if they don't, it's a one year rental. And that doesn't even touch on last year being by far the best year of Thomas' career--what if he regresses even a little?

There's a reason that Boston had to surrender the Nets pick--Thomas is a far, far riskier and thus less valuable asset than Irving. A role-player like Crowder and a lottery ticket like Zizic didn't make up the difference in value between the two players.

Obviously, the deal could end up being incredible for Cleveland if everything turns up roses--if they do sign Thomas to that deal and he's a star for 6 more years, and the Nets pick turns into a good or great player. But, in that case, they'll have taken on the risk and won. Fair play since those same risks could also go against them.

Yeah if they want Tatum/Brown, I'd sub out the Nets pick for their own pick.

If they don't say yes to that, it's no deal imo.

Shabazz Muhammad may have just found his new team.

Let's say that the Pelicans are really hoping to make the playoffs this year, and feel like loss of Hill will severely impact that possibility. Would you be willing to deal Aminu to them in a cost saving move, with the condition that they also take Nicholson? Due to the restrictions on dealing Nicholson, this would have to be done in two separate deals.

Net effect of these two deals would save the Blazers $3.5M this year and over $17M overall (not counting tax savings), as well as net them another young asset in Diallo, but would definitely weaken the team this year, while strengthening a competitor for playoff positioning. Given the opportunity, however, it would seem to be a relatively shrewd move to make.

I'd rather Keep Aminu. I'd do the 2nd deal but Nicholson is a PF. How does that help them?

Not having to stretch Nicolson would "save us" some $$$ as well, depending on how you look at it.

Obviously it wouldn't. Them taking Nicholson would be the cost of acquiring Aminu.

no. I'm not an Aminu fan but that's a backwards step if I've ever seen one.

If anything, send him and Nicholson to Cleveland for Shumpert.

This makes sense because Shumpert wants out and could replace Crabbe, we save $3M, and CLE needs a backup PF. Aminu, Crowder, and Lebron gives them 3 defenders that can do a good job guarding PG through PF.
