I'm on record as thinking Shump could be a great 3rd guard with Dame and CJ. He's not a great fit in an iso offense, but in Terry's offense everyone gets a chance to take the ball and hit someone moving, probably enough to get him engaged. Buy low!

He doesn't hit shots for me on NBA Double Dribble for the original NES. He's not even in the hecking game. What a bum.

Yeah, that's the point of the question. It makes us worse in the short term, but saves tons and opens up more flexibility in the long term. Also opens up more PT at the forward spots for young guys (including Diallo, whom I kinda like).

Can't do that deal until mid-September (I believe) because of the restriction on aggregating Nicholson's salary in trade, so you risk holding onto Nicholson past the stretch deadline in hopes of the Cavs not getting a better offer in the interim. However, I wouldn't be opposed to such a move.

Also it would get Portland the best 1-2 rap punch in the NBA.

Relatively interesting (though apparently 6-month-old) article from Alex Kennedy about the basic mechanics behind the formulation/consummation of an NBA trade (I just now saw it for the first time because he tweeted it out again).

    http://hoopshype.com/2017/02/21/this-is-how-trades-go-down-in-the-nba/

A lot of what he talks about in regard to the different elements of the front-office team is not unexpected, and really reminds me a lot of this forum. There are a lot of people in here who are amateur "capologists", generating trade scenarios based on what would seem to improve the team's cap/tax position; others who are analytics experts, looking for the undervalued prospects/"diamonds in the rough"; and scouts who are more focused on player skillsets, team needs, and system fit. I think all of us fall more toward one side of that triangle than the others (although I think most of us try to look at these things from all angles as much as possible).

If he continues to hit the three like he did last year, he'd be a nice third guard. If he regresses towards being more of a .320-.330 three-point shooter, I'm less enthused.

36% from 3 from a plus perimeter defender is some "meh" from which this squad would benefit greatly.

Shumpert is an ok defender. And he doesn't really hit. :dunno:

    I'd rather have Aminu. Jussayin.

In a vacuum, maybe. But when we're thin at guard and stacked at forward, and we could also get rid of the additional $20M owed to Nicholson as well, I'd deal Aminu for Shumpert (+probably Felder to match salary) any day..

As a third guard? A guy who can play solid defense and shoot a solid percentage would be quite valuable. I'm not saying he's a star--you don't get stars to be third guards.

Exactly. Shumpert is the guard version of Aminu. We need guards, and have too many forwards.

Doesn't really matter now, since Nicholson has now been waived. The idea of trading for Shumpert was based on the idea of divesting ourselves of Nicholson, which is now no longer an issue.
