Look at Boston. They've made 70 major moves in the last 4 years, including 22 trades. Their last two deals--getting Hayward and Irving--were huge. Meanwhile, Portland is trying to build mainly through the draft. Olshey's deal for Nurkic looks brilliant, but should he be trying to make more big impact deals like that? I'm concerned that we're being too cautious, but perhaps Olshey is playing this the right way. What think you?

Yes, Olshey should have brought Paul George, Hayward, Butler and Melo to Portland, traded Lillard for Kyrie and made an offer for LeBron James

I think he's playing it very good. If something really good comes along he pulls the trigger but he doesn't take unnessecary chances and I think with all the hype Boston is getting that they'd be worse next year and Portland would be better

Neil got Nurk and stole the Sun's rehab and training staff leader....that's playing it safe...the Suns fix broken players better than anyone...now we have their guy!

I think the guy worked in Phoenix but not for the Suns or any sports team there.

I thought he worked for the suns....maybe wishful thinking on my part....my son worked for a physical therapist in Eugene right out of college and went to several training sessions in Phoenix where he said the best therapists in the world are headquartered...at any rate...I think maintaining healthy players is a win

Olshey is playing it perfectly. He has set us up with a big 3 in Dame/CJ/Nurkic... plus the assets to acquire another major piece with Collins and Swanigan... don't know what more some of you expect.

Boston is in a key market and a team with a great history. I don't believe if you swapped management and assets that Portland would have the same luck being in an NBA outpost.

    Question:

Was Olshey playing it safe when he offered all 3 picks and any player on the team sans our big 3 for Paul George??

Or was K-Pee just being a dumbass?

Unless a superstar or two falls into your lap, continuity is important. Olshey is building from a solid base. Considering you couldn't get a big name free agent to Portland at gun point, I think Olshey is doing fine.

I think it's more Paul Allen the Neil Olshey. I remember similar discussions when KP was GM. I don't think it's any secret Paul Allen loves his players and loves the draft. I also believe that PA is somewhat still haunted by the Jermaine O Neil thing. So yes in a way I think the GM's of the Blazers play it to safe.

70 major moves in 4 years and they've won a single Division title in those 4 years. In other words, they've basically finished one step ahead of Portland in those 4 years. I'm struggling to get your point/comparison. It's not like Boston has run away from the pack.......yet.

Sorry I love what Nurk brings and his attitude but let's see him play a full season first.

Different sport but the Mariners make a pretty big trade about once a month and they still suck balls.
