<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>DALLAS ? Paul Pierce [stats]?s body has been telling him painful things, and as a result he plans to have a discussion with his coach about the wisdom of playing through the multiple maladies down the season?s stretch. As of now, with Doc Rivers more inclined to see Pierce stay the course, it figures to be an interesting meeting. The Celtics [team stats] captain hasn?t had much residual trouble with his left foot after a stress reaction caused him to miss 24 games, but that injury has given rise to others and left him a good distance from optimum shape. There?s also a left elbow that continues to swell and ache. ??I think about it,?? Pierce said about the possibility of shutting his season down early. ??I think about it definitely with the way my body?s been feeling since I?ve been back. I mean, it?s crossed my mind, especially with these remaining games and whether I should just take the rest and come back strong next season. But it?s a tough situation. I?m such a competitive person, I want to be out there. The foot?s been OK, but I think I?ve hurt other parts of my body because of it. When I first came back I really didn?t want to jump as much or put as much pounding on it. That ended up hurting other parts of my body. ??I?ll probably have to sit down and talk with Doc. I know I?ve been having problems with my elbow and other parts. So I?ll probably sit down with coach some time after this road trip and talk to him about it and see what he thinks.?? At this point, Rivers doesn?t think much of the theory that something can be gained by Pierce beginning his offseason early. ??I don?t buy into that,?? Rivers said. ??I think you get paid to play, and if you?re healthy enough to play, you play. He?s not hurting himself. If he had an injury, then that?s a whole different ballgame. But he doesn?t have an injury that?s going to hurt him. To me, you play. . . . No would be my answer right now. I think you should want to play, and I think Paul does. I think he set a great example when he pushed hard to come back.??</div>http://celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/vi...rticleid=189044
This isnt a thing that Paul would ussually do....But, I understand his thinking. He hasnt been the same person since he has been back, and a little time off might benefit him. The team isnt going anywhere this year, and it would be best to let some of our young guns get more playing time.
If the team ain't going nowhere and they can get a good player in the draft to next season so why play when you can play next season with Kevin Durant och Oden
I hope he goes out, and Boston gets the worse record...I read something where it said only once in the last 10 years did the worst team in the league have the 1st overall pick.
Dammit, the Celtics proved that they are actually a pretty solid team when Pierce is in there and the players are playing with confidence.
I wouldnt like if he just quit, but he was truly having problems then it doesn't make sense to make them worse

It would benefit him more to not play. If he reinjured his elbow/foot in some pointless game against the Bobcats at the end of this season that would absolutely suck. He also needs to get back in good shape, he could slowly work back into that if he focused more on working out. He put on a few pounds from being idle because of his foot injury. Even though he's been playing pretty well as of lately, he should probably sit down.
