It's bullshit to say 'every politician lies' if the intent is to imply they are all the same. They aren't. There's a huge variation in honesty.

FISA used in probe

For instance, the FBI and Justice Department received a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant in October to help further the Russia investigation. Officials stressed there were no intercepts of Trump’s phone or emails.

Separately, they used traditional investigative techniques to review a computer server tied to the the soon-to-be-president's businesses in Trump Towers in New York but located elsewhere.

Agents were examining allegations of computer activity tied to Russia.. Very quickly, they concluded the computer activity in question involved no nefarious contacts, bank transactions or encrypted communications with the Russians, and likely involved routine computer signals.

The towers are home to Trump’s business, personal residence and then-campaign headquarters.

The Guardian has reported that the FBI applied for a Foreign Intelligence Service Act (FISA) warrant last summer to monitor members of the Trump campaign, but was denied in its initial attempt. Last November, former British MP and openly anti-Trump journalist Louise Mensch reported that the FBI had succeeded in its second request for a FISA warrant, which was later confirmed by the BBC.

Former Bush administration Attorney General Michael Mukasey joins ABC's Martha Raddatz on 'This Week' to discuss the wiretapping accusations made by President Trump on Twitter on Saturday morning:

"This is the difference between being correct and being right," Mukasey said about Trump's accusation of Obama. "I think the president was not correct certainly in saying that President Obama ordered a tap on a server in Trump Tower. However, I think he is right in that there was surveillance, and that it was conducted at the behest of the... Justice Department through the FISA court."

President Obama's Justice Department made two requests in June and October of 2016 to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) to monitor communications involving Donald Trump and several advisers. Because the first was denied, the second was narrower and focused on a computer server in Trump Tower suspected of transmitting links to Russian banks.

"It means there were some basis to believe that somebody in Trump Tower may have been acting as an agent of the Russians, for whatever purpose, not necessarily the election, but for some purpose. And the FBI keeps track of people who act as agents of foreign governments," he said. "They keep track of people who act as agents of the Chinese, the Russians, the Israelis, everybody."
