It has nothing to do with his race. It has to do with his arrogance; the way he presents his opinion as though it is gospel, and that any/all who disagree are idiots. White media members who behave the same way (Skip Bayless, Jay Mariotti, and...Canzano) are similarly disliked.
Can't stand all those shows with Steven A. and Bayless and those guys. Fucking unwatchable. I give Max Kellerman a break because we work together at the fights and he's a real cool guy (Hope I didn't offend the haters on here who claim I brag about my job by posting this) (Hope nobody forum members quit the site because of said post)
I absolutely HATE and can't stand Smith and it has nothing to do with race. Canzano isn't even as bad as he is and he's a complete ass face. Steven A. knows what he's doing and he's obviously good at it. Stir that shit up and let the haters hate..... whoa....... that last part.....as I typed it out, reminded me of somebody on here.
This morning he took his kids to school and I found a new leaf...... turned it over. he is a new The HCP. A different, kinder more gentler The HCP. He will surprise you.
Come on dviss1, I couldn't care less what color Stephen A.'s skin is. I'll admit that I have an aversion to the shrill histrionics that make up his shtick. I'd agree that he doesn't lie or have a pre-set agenda. I just think that he makes the story as much about him as he does the facts. I don't think he brings much in the way of thoughtful discussion to the stories he covers. Not my cup of tea.
If he was not as loud as he is I think people would respond differently. People don't like Skip for a different reason than the one that creates disdain for SAS so we should stop lumping them together.
Being that I don't know of a single sports reporter who sticks to just sports. I think they all suck ass.
Here's an interesting quote from an article in the Philadephia Enquirer about Stephen A. Smith: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/...hen-A-Smith-ESPN-First-Take-Philadelphia.html I think that's the part that bugs me about him. I like sports guys who give their take on something and do actually care about backing up what they say. That said, I should probably take him off my post as the worst sports journalist. I think he does know his subject, I just don't care for his delivery.
He didn't say he doesn't care about backing up what he says. He said he doesn't care why you disagree with him. Which is, in essence, why I said I didn't like him.
Poor choice of words on my part. I should have said, "I like sports guys who give their take on something and do actually care about convincing you that they're right." In short, I'll take the Kellerman logic over the Smith emotion.
I don't mind Stephen A. Smith, but I don't watch enough ESPN to get sick of him. I think it is funny when he starts quoting Malcolm X when he get's worked up. I appreciate him backtracking on what he'd said about the blazers' moves during 2006 draft, when he realized he was wrong. I see why others would be annoyed by his bombastic style though. I can't stand Skip Bayless. Fuck Skip Bayless.
I like Stephen A. I think he gets a bad rap and unnecessarily thrown under the bus because of his style of delivery.
